I'll start from the beginning for the curious folks. I wormed my horses the night of the 14th. The night of the 15th all of my horses were laying down when I pulled in to feed PM. Everyone but my 3yo eventually got up and came in the barn to eat. I have 5. They are all on the same worming schedule. I wormed with moxidectin. I had to almost whoop on her to get her up. She was very lethargic and did not want to eat. Her vitals were all normal other than her gums. They were very dark, almost purple. I gave her banimine and electrolytes (around 7pm) after talking to my vet on call. She got a big drink and within an hour was perked up and hungry. Checked on her at 11pm and she was laying down when I got there but got up and started nickering at me for food. She looked and sounded good but no poop. At 2am she had passed 1 normal BM. She was semi alert but seemed sore to the touch on her abdomen (not distended). Vitals all normal. Gums more pink. At 7am she was very dull again, VERY tender on the abdomen and having back muscle spams. Gums pale white. 1 normal BM since 4am. Gave another dose banimine and took her with me to work. By the time I got to work she had perked up and her gums were pink and normal. Blood pulled and normal, not dehydrated. Tubed with 1/2 gal oil & 1/2 gal water. Stayed comfortable a few hours. Laid down, I walked her, tubed with water and electrolytes. Comfortable a few hours, laid down, tubed with 1 gal water. Comfortable a few hours and tubed with more water. During the course of the day she had 3 small BMs and 1 med sized BM but no oil passed and the BMs were a little drier than I want. When I left at 5 she was starting to get uncomfortable again. We have 2 other colics there at the moment so there will be a tech and a vet there all night long. She will probably be given more drugs and tubed all night to try to keep her stuff moving. Through all of this her HR never got above 40 and her guts had good, normal sounds.

I am not freaking out (yet) because she is not acting in terrible pain, just uncomfortable. I do have this terrible feeling she will end up surgical but I think that's just because I work there and see so many end up on the table. Ugh :(

This is my first colic ever to last more than 14-16hrs.

Lots of prayers she's fine tomorrow.  You should feel better having her spend the night where someone knowledgable will be tending her.

since she did not pass the oil it sounds to me like a twist or permanent closure not a simple impaction colic. Otherwise I think the liquids would have loosened up something more than you are seeing.
the pale gums etc sound like the horse was going into shock and could be in big trouble but it was held off by the treatments.

sounds like sugery sooner the better subject to vets advice. Good luck and may God be with your horse and you in this vert stressful time!

Have they palpated, had one sounds similar, she had an inverted colon, vet was able to manipulate it when she was flipped.

Prayers for a successful recovery.

Also remember recovery is the hardest, you need to get everything working before feeding.

My horse was on water only till she drank 20 gallons, then I could only give her a small flower bouquet of alfalfa hay 6 times a day till she had normal poops, then gradually increase the hay amount to a larger bouquet, then a flake, this took 3 days, then I had to switch her back to her regular feed, it was a good 5 days before I could kick her back out in the pasture

Hey guys. On my way to work to check on her. Just gonna try to answer some questions. She was palpated yesterday and no abnormalities were felt. Not even an impaction. We are the vet that gets referral colics from Oakridge and other OK equine vets. I trust my vet in terms of dealing with colics BUT they are not miracle workers so I'm trying to be positive but realistic.

Thank you to everyone. I'll let y'all know what's going on in a few.

Prayers for a good update. My friends horse passed away 2 weeks ago due to an impaction. It was an awful thing to see. Good luck to you.

Update. She had a few. BMs over night and began passing oil this morning. She was palpated by the surgeon who said she felt empty. He gave her Dex due to the worming history. He also decided to start giving her small handfulls of alfalfa every few hours. I just checked on her and it appears put oil came out of her. I don't believe it's urine because there is small bits of fecal matter in it. She is slightly more alert. Last banimine was 8 this morning.

Hoping she feels better soon, my mare that just had the bladder stone removed was a little colicky about 2 days after we got her home. Hoping your little mare turns it around too!
