I remember when I actually had healthcare. Last year I had catastrophic health insurance as between the premiums and my deductible, I would spend $12,000. before any benefits kicked in. I just got the new premium after BCBS told me my rates weren't going to go up. They went up over $120.00 a month. How can people continue to afford this? The only shining light is I will be going on Medicare and our premiums for original Medicare, a supplemental and a drug plan will be just a little over $600.00 a month for both of us instead of $629.00 for just me.

Be prepared for more decline and disappointment in years to come. Quality will decline. Cost will go up. Deductible will go up. People will whine and complain, but few will actually stop to seriously consider solutions.....there is only one, unless you want a pure single payor system. This has been Obozo's plan all along. This is his phase of chaos.

Ours went up $80 per month. We are also BCBS. We have had this policy since 2009, and it has gone up about $20-$40 each year, so I was a lite shocked that it went up this much.

We can't go without it, but I'm wondering how much longer we can afford it. Planning to look at it closely to see if we can find a less expensive alternative.

I have BCBS too!! And ours went up from $986 per month to $1048 per month. $430 of that is my husbands with a $2500 deductible and $618 is mine and our kids with a $2500 deductible! It just keeps going up, every time we have a birthday, and then it will just go up for the hell of it!! I don't know what we are going to do.... I guess raise our deductible....

We WERE doing great here in louisiana. Our insurance was working well, there was a surplus.... It was one successful program. We were effectively insulated from the rest of the nation's insurance woes. Some of you will remember from past discussions that some state employees don't pay into social security. Our retirement is the plan other states want to copy. I love my state. I just hope we can continue to be the great state i have come to love.

I am still carrying the basically catastrophic plan that I had pre-Obamacare. premiums went up another $10 or so to $233 for a 5K deductible, and 80/20 after that. Basically the same kind of coverage as the lower levels of Ocare, with no government subsidy. Went online to get an estimate for better coverage WITH subsidy and it was tempting to switch, but I am going to wait and see how much premiums climb before I give up my crappy, grandfathered insurance, since I can never get it back.

Healthcare will never ever be cheap, and it sure as hell won't be free, unless you are extremely poor or not a US citizen....not if we want the best healthcare on the planet. The key is to identify what exactly our healthcare dollars are spent on. There is so much waste, abuse, and fraud out there, most of you would just shake your heads. The only way to really get costs down is to make individuals responsible by giving them a vested interest in their health care spending. There is absolutely no other way....no magic bullet. Citizens are not consumers of health care in today's world. They are utilizers, with zero vested interest. All they care is that their Ox isn't gored. We have a dysfunctional notion of how insurance is supposed to work. It will take a very articulate, compelling, knowledgable individual to lay out a plan.

This. My mom, who works part time got full benefits...until now. Because her office loves her they bumped up her hours so she would get benefits again, which still went way up in cost. And she also gets the short end of the stick because she's 60 and doesn't want to work so many hours! It's all bullsh!t. I hate obama.

I bought an individual plan for myself and 2 children. I was forced to also buy dental. bc my son is under 18 and that's part of the new law. If you have a child under 18.you are required to carry dental. IMO dental insurance is a waste of $. I pay $426.21 a month with a $6000.00 deductible person, with a family max of $12,000.00 per year. We do not get Dr visits with a copay we have to pay out of pocket until we reach deductible. I could've opted for a copay policy with a lower deductible but it would have cost me 2x more per month. Thankfully, we are a healthy family and we don't use it. I just donate! The thing that REALLY ****ed me off is having to carry maternity insurance and I CAN'T GET PREGNANT! I used to be able to opt out

I am lucky, while the insurance has a $5000 deductible through my job -which is what I had when I had BCBS.  Which I paid $320 month but it was going up to $600(that was 2 yrs ago)  I now pay $121 per month.  I have wellness visits, Dr visits, Ex rays, pharmacy etc that are excluded from the deductible.  While it is not great it is better than what I could getwhen I was purchasing myself.  I am 54 and have never been without health insurance since I was 19.  It scares me to not have something that will at least cover a catastrophic accident.

Thankfully, my insurance hasn't changed much, not that it was great to begin with. I have a lot of friends and family members who are having some serious problems though. Rates going up with no way to afford them, not to mention in a few years when the fine really goes up. People are going to be in trouble.

The thing that has directly affected me, is I work in a hospital. Cutting budgets, cutting budgets, and cutting budgets. Working with less people, expected to do more, when there isn't time to do any more. Then being told we may or may not get raises, the hospital may or may not stay open. They're saying every hospital that is not for profit will be closing it's doors in the next five years. I was debating going back to school to further my education, so that I could become a supervisor or even a director. Now I'm wondering if I should just get out of healthcare entirely. I take a lot of pride in my work and I'm good at what I do, I don't want to put out half-a$$ work and have a patient suffer, because I had too much on my plate because they couldn't hire more people. That's not fair to them or me. It's also not fair for me to go back to school, get another degree and only have them bump my pay a dollar or two. It's a viscious cycle. I truly hope someone can put together a plan to fix what this moron has started.

Mine went up a few dollars in the vision/dental side. But I qualify for a discount because I'm a single mom, and I've completed my health quest information. But I have state employee insurance. I pay $45.41 for health for my daughter and I each pay check, then 4.21 vision, 1.21 dental. Minus $20 for healthquest discount, so 25.41 for the preminum. Our deductible is $600 for her and I

I had no idea they were going to go up again! I went online to check mine and it went from $163 a month to $176 starting the first of the year. Defiantly not much compared to what I see others paying, but I am young and thats still quite a bit out of my pocket for each month. I am very grateful that my long time BF pulled some strings thru his govt job and got me on his health plan, so my individual insurance has been canceled. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to me.

Not really, it applies to all State of Kansas Employees. It depends on which plan  you choose. I have BCBS plan A because it's a lower deductible. If I made more money than the guidelines for the healthykids program, I would be paying the full amount which is shown on the chart.

I received notice from BC/BS that my current coverage was going from $1100 per month to $1700 per month for my wife and mysefl effective 01-01-15. This was a $600 per month increase. Definately not what I was expecting. This is a $7200 per year increase and our president had promised that we would actually see a $2500 per year decrease in our health insurance with the new affordable health care act. It is going to get where no one can afford to carry the coverage and by the way our deductible also increased to $6000 per person. What a Joke!!!!!

We had good insurance through my husband's good job. With my first child, my hospital delivery visit costs us a total of the $250 deductible. Then this time last year, thanks to Ocare, we were forced to switch providers and for the plan that was the closest to the one we had it doubled our monthly premium. This year has been about the same as far as regular visit copays, but we were just notified it is going up by another 30% now. That's a 160% increase in premium in just 12 months. AND I'm having a baby in February, I called to verify it will be just the hospital co-pay, but no. We have to pay 20% of all costs for the hospital visit PLUS the $500 deductible. So having this child is going to costs us around $3k, on top of the outrageous premiums. Ouch.

Makes it hard to live life.

People simply can't afford this - there is NOTHING affordable about it. People will just not have insurance AND won't be able to pay the astronomical bills either, then what will happen? This is just (YET ANOTHER) big mess!

That is really similar to what I pay as an Individual on the federal system with a $500 deductible.  $20 copay's for Dr visits.  I pay $200 a month for my plan and I've never been refused service or forced to find a PPO.

The SO has BCBS and pays almost double what I do for the same coverage ... needless to say, when we get married in 2015, he'll be on my plan and it will only increase about $100 a month.

Another example of almost free insurance. There is one point upon which everyone agrees.......ObamaCare is predicated on income redistribution. It has little effect on the lives of the truly wealthy......the middle class takes it in the as$. Some rejoice at their free healthcare or health insurance, for which they pay a pittance, without even recognizing that the person next to them is paying for it.....oftentimes hugely.

Relax everyone. This is temporary. According to the Obamunists, this is only phase 1. Chaos and the collapse of the insurance industry, as we know it, will follow. That's what happens when you make a deal with the devil. Once the dust has settled, 17% of the private sector economy will have fallen into the abyss, and we all will have " free" healthcare and everyone will rejoice and sing "Oh Happy Day" in unison.

Then........reality.

I pay $45.41 for health for my daughter and I each pay check, then 4.21 vision, 1.21 dental. Minus $20 for healthquest discount, so 25.41 for the preminum. Our deductible is $600 for her and I
That is really similar to what I pay as an Individual on the federal system with a $500 deductible.

Just to note ... Hoofs works for the State and I'm a Federal employee ... our plans are cheaper for us b/c taxes subsidize our plans.  I really don't think our plans are cheaper per say, but less expensive for our own pockets.  I liken it to an employer paying more on a plan ...

sorrel horse ranch - 2014-12-18 7:11 PM BCBS is dropping me after December 31.  That puts me without any insurance until July1.  Very scary for me.  Thank you Obama.
Why?

This is a long story so bear with me and I hope I can explain.  I am now 67 years old.  When it was time for me to sign up for Medicare we exactly the time I found the lump in my breast that was cancer.  It was such a crazy time I was being hauled to Houston to doctors and I was being rushed through 4 surgeries in 3 weeks to chemo to radiation and I thought I could just keep my BCBS.  Went on paying my premiums.  I was told by a doctor that I should sign up for Medicare this year between October and December.  Can't do that because you do that the year before you turn 65.  So medicare won't kick in till July1.  SS should have sent me a medicare card when it was time to sign up.  But I never recieved one.  So basically because I fell through the crack and our government agencies forgot me I have to wait the 6 months.  They say there is nothing they can do about.....it is just an oh well.  There are no policies that will pick me up before I get medicare.  I have been told this by 3 different agents.  And because I have an existing disease I can only get supplemental insurance to medicare during an open enrollment time which is back to October through December.  I am totally screwed.  So I will be charged by the IRS for not having insurance this year.  I am just sick.  Not knowing what I may need the next 6 months.

Cdunn - 2014-12-19 10:58 AM I received notice from BC/BS that my current coverage was going from $1100 per month to $1700 per month for my wife and mysefl effective 01-01-15.
Of course, I don't believe any of the crap that spews from Obummer's mouth, but it really makes me wonder WHAT is going to happen? People simply can't afford this - there is NOTHING affordable about it. People will just not have insurance AND won't be able to pay the astronomical bills either, then what will happen? This is just (YET ANOTHER) big mess!

Obama wants everyone equal and the high premiums are part of taking from people and giving to other people and is why it is actually a tax. It's called Socialism and he is all over that.

Otherwise we the people are paying for part of your insurance. LOL If it was up to Obama..we would all be working for the government and we would have one party and we would be called the Socialist States of America. There is a reason he has added so many federal jobs. He wants to own everyone.

This just makes me sick for you.

My farrier had cancer and he can't get a policy as he gets turned down so he also pays the penalty for not having something he can't get. Great law.

I put my life on hold this year because of the $6,000. deductible and $6,000. yearly premium. It sucks to be responsible.

So I see a lot of people are winding up with a gap in coverage. That could be devastating. Just goes to show how well ObamaCare has been planned out.

I'm fortunate to be a teacher. We dont have to buy the Obama insurance. Ours already qualifies. I have BCBS and there are 2 of us on my plan. I pay 200 a month for health, dental, and vision combined. No deductibles, 15.00 office Co pay. ER and hospital covered 100 percent. ER visit without being admitted is 50.00. Free prescription coverage.

Docs are getting screwed on these new plans also! The fee schedules are way lower than their regular fee schedules! Healthcare is definitely going to be of lesser quality because for what it costs to go thru med school you won't have the cream of the crop going into that field!

I've seen a lot of young students opt for nursing school with view toward becoming a nurse practitioner, or some opt for PA school. Twenty years ago these were the ones who apply to med school first, but now they choose to be a mid level provider and one big reason is the huge debt burden when they are out. Foreign grads are rapidly becoming more commonplace amongst physicians.

I've worked the same place for almost 7 years. When I started we had company provided health insurance for free. We paid vision, dental on our own.

The next year it went to they would either pay all and give you $2000 to your fsa with a 2500 deductible or you could pay like $100 a month. Mind you, it is and has been a tobacco free work place since the beginning (privately owned in Texas).

The past few years they've implemented a "voluntary" wellness program, removed at sugar from our vending machines and cafeteria, and brought a nurse in.

2015 they stopped offering a low deductible plan at all. Fortunately we've been high deductible with an HSA for years so I'm already used to that. We put a chunk in that every year since individually we have a 6k deductible, then a % to our max out of pocket.

I will say, having a clinic in house isn't half bad especially if it is something like a sinus infection that you just need an Rx for but really don't want to take time out to get into a doctor.

For my family we pay about $300 a month on health only. That is with one wellness discount. If my husband would get his blood pressure under control it would go down $100 a month.

I could change jobs and make more money, but I'd end up spending it on health insurance. So I stay where I'm at for now.

I had posted earlier when my husband went to his last physician visit, he has to go every 4 months, the doctor saw him for 5 minutes and it took almost 20 to check out at the front desk with all the crap they have to do because of Obamacare.

With millions of illegals working their way into our health care system it should get more and more interesting.   Obama crawling in bed with the Castro brothers..... I see tens of thousands of Cuban illegals floating our way very soon looking for that free lunch.

And yes, my paycheck is already smaller as of September 1st thanks to our health care premiums going up.

We don't have insurance . we couldn't afford it. It would have been over 1/2 our monthly income. I have a dental plan throughout Delta Dental because my teeth are the only thing that has ever needed work. I pay 30 a month have to pay $60 for a yearly cleaning and grays. $90 per filling or extraction. I have had 2 teeth pulled and 6 filling so far this year. 1 more to pull and 8 more filling......
