One week ago from tonight a member of my son's ASOS unit who is guard status was shot in the face on duty during a routine traffic stop. He has served in Afghanistan and Iraq under intense and dangerous battle conditions. Thankfully he survived but he will have scars both physcially and emotionally. Itsme... do you consider this type of attack "push back" also? |

What will it take to see the truth about law enforcement?
Our Law Enforcement Officers are being murdered as well as laying down their lives on duty every 58 hours. They are being shot while sitting at traffic lights. Executed in coffee shops and on their lunch breaks. Lured into ambushes and blown away while removing debris from the roadway, or while responding to an alarm call which was a set up. They are being killed in their own driveways, while off duty. They are being shot inside their own precincts.
If celebrities or professional athletes were being targeted, shot and murdered to the tune of one dead every 58 hours there would be an instant demand for answers and protection. There would be a national cry to stop the violence before it impacted reality TV or sports center.
Regardless of proven statistics which tell us otherwise, our officers continue to get blamed as a whole for the actions of less than one percent*. Regardless of common sense in a world where we have all encountered a bad mechanic, doctor, plumber, we blame ALL cops for the few. Regardless of countless corrupt priests, teachers, crooked judges and lawyers, we do not condemn their entire profession, it’s asinine to even consider. But with law enforcement, it is instant condemnation of all.
What exactly does an officer have to do for you to say his/her life has worth? What will it take for you to see the family waiting at home, praying theirs isn’t the next officer down? What will it take for the citizens of this country to say without them, who will make these sacrifices? Will you? Are you ready to be the target? Are you ready to line up your family and friends and know one of you will not come home every other day?
Our law enforcement officers are humans. When will it be enough to say something’s got to give? Even for those who hate the police….you’ll be the first to dial 911 when you need them and you will expect them to run lights blazing to your rescue, after all, you pay their salary.
What happens when they say, sorry, it’s too dangerous, you’re on your own. You hate us anyway, so do as you see fit. YOU stand in front of the bullet and protect your own family. You pry your mangled wife out of the wreckage you caused while drunk and give her CPR in front of your children. You stand in the pouring rain in the dead of night on an expressway and protect your own car from being hit by a semi until the tow truck gets there. You unlock your own car you left your keys in. You change your own tire when 8 months pregnant in 102 degree heat. You stand in front of your own abusive husband and his weapon and his fist and tell him to leave your home without harming you.

You enter your neighborhood store and approach a masked man with a shotgun and reason with him not to kill you or those in the store. You go knock on the neighbor’s door who has a warrant, a house full of weapons and a sign on the door that says “don’t tread on me”.
You watch for drunks out of control on the highway in an ice storm. You pray they don’t kill you. You respond to suicide calls and cut teenagers from makeshift nooses in their garages or scrape their brain matter out of the soles of your boots. You tell their parents what happened while they were out socializing, again.
You walk into a house with no power in 105 degree heat containing the bodies of an entire family, including babies, now maggot infested and unidentifiable by anything other than the stench of rotten death. You walk up to cars who have nearly run you off the road only to be met with a gun in your face and no time to react.
You try and coax a brutally beaten and savagely raped teenager the same age as your own daughter out of the closet where she was left to die as she holds a knife to her own throat. You convince her tomorrow will be better.
You hate the police? You have no use for them? You think they’re worthless? Do it yourself. Worry about it all on your own. You surely can do better. You surely are wiser than those lazy, corrupt, doughnut eating fools you don’t give the time of day to when you hear they were gunned down while you went on about your business. Please, give them a rest and do it yourself.
You might want to hug your family and have your affairs in order before you head out, there’s a very real chance you’ll never make it home, of course that’s no big deal….you signed up for that, and my tax dollars allow me to ignore your worth. After all, you’re just a cop.
Oh, and you sure as hell better do it all perfectly, every single time. After all, you’re not human anymore. You’re just a cop. No one cares if you get it right…but you sure as hell better never get it wrong…because a good cop who did get it right will get his head blown off in an entirely different state if you screw up. That goes for you too, by the way. Better pray all 740,000 do right by that badge today, if not… It’s all on you, because all cops are bad cops, right?

This act was just as wrong as people targeting Muslims for crimes committed by others in the name of Islam. I see nothing wrong with the behavior of the police in Ferguson or New York. I do however have doubts about the 12 year old kid that was shot in Ohio. The story changed fast enough that a lot of people didn't notice it but the chief of police said in front of cameras that the cop told the kid to drop the gun... Then someone realized what a screw-up that was and they changed the story to the cop told the kid to raise his hands. |

| I work with law enforcement every day.... people are so quick to judge them. Its hard for anyone to understand the judgments/decisions they have to make in the matter of a milla-second. If you think barrel races are timed to the littlest mistake... consider making a life or death decision in a thousandth of a second.
If you think for a second that those decisions to weigh on their minds... you would be wrong, very wrong. We had a deputy get into a exchange of fire after the gunman was waiting by a Judge's car... he asked him to surrender and the gunman opened fire on him. My deputy shot and killed him... his life was in immediate danger and hes lucky... very lucky to be here but if you don't think its worn on his mind every single day... you'd be mistaken.
I am not saying all cops are good... just like not all doctors are good, they hold lives in their hands too. However, I would tell you those "bad" officers are the minority.
We hear about all the officers mistakes... what about the sgt who entered a fully involved house fire and drug the homeowner to safety?? Bet that never made the news, actually I know it didn't.
Everyone is so quick to judge... but how many of you (its me) put their life on the line daily for others? Officers have families, they got into LE to help people, they're people with personalities, fears, senses of humor...
How come there are millions/billions of black americans who seem to have contact with law enforcement and don't get shot?!?! How is that possible if officers target black people because their lives done matter? (please know the sarcasm.) |

Our world is being divided...not just our country and it's been slowly building through the years...I sure don't know the answers, I do know that I miss the days when LEO's were who little boys wanted to be when they grew up, someone who was there to help...it seems like they're trained more & more to have the 'us vs them' mentality...and trigger fingers. They scare the he** outta me nowdays.
A few years back the FBI were in the area searching for 3 men who'd killed 2 policemen...one was searching my folks motel rooms & building while I unlocked doors for him...I noticed the horses way out back doing there 'watch dog' thing & saw 2 men dressed in black with rifles pointed at me (I know they were pointed at me cuz the only other person near me was their buddy), I asked, "Those guys down there with the rifles pointed at us...they with you?" He HID behind me! 6'4" baby in a kevlar vest. Ha. I'd heard the 13 yr old neighbor boy start his 4-wheeler & knew he was headed toward them...I'm not so sure they wouldn't have shot him had the Kevlar baby not warned them at my insistance.
I share that because I resent having a gun pointed at me for absolutely no reason...especially when the finger on the trigger is 'nervous'.
It's a 'brotherhood' alright...and sometimes it seems like it's not much different than some of the other 'groups' who swear an oath to each other over all others.
I think it's an insidious issue & have no clue how to combat it...just observing.
Again...my thoughts & prayers.

What about the one that let the lady stealing food get off scott free, because she only had a little over a dollar and her kids were hungry. She didn't have enough to buy a dozen eggs so stole six. I heard he filled her house up with food. Now it isn't my place to judge if she had been using money on drugs, booze or smokes. All I get out of that story was a selfless man, policeman at that helped someone. Thank God there are still people that aren't so negative and nasty, that can still see the good in people. They know most everyone, reach down and pick up a little kid that stumbles and falls. Carry groceries out for older people. They are the good guy still. Then you have your cops used to dealing with the dirt bags in down town Chicago, the slums or whatever you call it. I bet they are a bit quick to pull a gun. They are dealing with crime on a whole new level.

How many LEO's do you know? I know plenty of children who still look up to them. In fact, we just had shop with a cop in our community and we couldn't supply enough officers for the amount of children. We have tons of community nights and the kids are all over our officers, firefighters, etc.
Everyone is so quick to say its the officers who have changed, its their mentality, their training that's caused this. Have any of you looked at the crime statistics? The increase in armed suspects? Officers have a reason to be more "trigger happy." Their chances of being shot are much much more likely than they were 20 years ago.
You can point at what you see today but you have to look beneath. Less people wanna be officers because less and less wanna be pictured on the news... officers do 50+ good deeds per day each but that one bad thing maybe once every few years whether that be a complaint or whatever... it outweighs all the good. To be constantly criticized... I cant imagine. |

MM, I don't know if you are correct or not in regards my post being the same. What I do know is My delivery while blunt has never been as offensive as the 'other one'.

I am appalled that anybody could casually dismiss this or infer it was an action that was justified. I have to wonder if you really feel this way or if perhaps you just like to agitate. It matters not to me. I have over my years on this board valiantly tried to stay away from personal attacks/comments when posting. I have on occasion failed. This will be one of those times. You are an IDIOT and must have no grasp of right and wrong as well as a total and complete lack of common sense. Law enforcement officers are human. That means there are good ones, bad ones and everything in between. You cannot judge them unless you have put your life on the line to keep me safe. They stand between those of us who keep the law and anarchy. I am grateful for them as well as our armed forces who risk their lives daily. No, they may not be perfect, but when events such as this are condoned in the name of "pushing back," there is a problem. Pushing back for what if you don't mind me asking. The death of a thug who would have killed a LEO in the line of duty if he had not been stopped by lethal force? If you really feel that the events persecuting law officers are justified and are not just posting to stir the pot, then the black agitators should be proud. They have accomplished their goal.

MANY of today's police officers are also military veterns and are our neighbors, friends, husband, wives, sons, daughters..... They DON'T set out on any given day "just hoping" to "target" someone to beat, kick around or shot. Actually, I would bet money if you talk to about any police officer if they never had to fire their gun, that would be FINE with them and a good day to them would be a "quiet one" where they come home to their families every night.
So now we have "Group A" - who keep SCREAMING about not judging them based upon "appearance" - Is now the SAME group of people who can justify killing others based soley on that peron's "appearance"?
I undersand this was a lone gunman but he killed these two individuals based ONLY on the fact they were cops. NO OTHER REASON. He did not know them and they propably had never seen his face before today. And even more sadly, I am sure there are MANY other people that are happy those "pigs" were killed ....it was "revenge."
I realize in the "reality of things" it will propably only be a minority of people who think along this distored way of thinking but it makes NO sense to me. I am sick of this double standard "Don't judge me, but it is OK for me to judge you."

When you give someone the power and authority that comes with the badge and the gun of a law enforcement officer... at some point they will abuse it. Maybe it will only be a small infraction. I'm not nor ever been a 'bleeding heart'...yet, I've lived next to the Navajo Reservation for over 35 years and have seen the discrimination. In December 1987 2 Navajo policemen (one of whon I knew very well) were murdered. The details vary, suffice it to say they had 'busted' a teenage party in the boonies & were attacked, tied up, shot in the back execution style (not killed), tortured in front of many young eyes who were also threatened then burned alive when the vehicle used to 'remove' the bodies got stuck in a wash.
We've had very little 'police protection' since then...they will not come here to prevent anything...they only show up if there's a body they must deal with and most times they aren't even called then as the reservation is federal & nobody wants the FBI around (I guess?) & they have no trust in 'authority'. People simply 'disappear'.
There's only a few gangs of 'bad apples' but they have the entire population terrorized...including their own family members. The hatred for 'white man' is palpable. And getting more so everyday. (Thank you Hollywood and ignorant politicians and media and'users' and bleeding hearts everywhere...).
What I really don't get is how they call each other *ni***'s? What is that about?
The divide is real...even out here in the boonies. I can't imagine how awful it is in the inner cities.
We have no choice but to be well armed as we have no one to call. They don't bother us too much here in our community...they've tried to take it over & have gang wars in town...we've had to get involved personally & become a gang of our own. It's stoopid. I wonder sometimes why I must pay taxes when we have no services.
I hear all the time on the scanner, "Is it a native?", if it is the calls are often ignored. Even accidents.
I don't know the answer.
I like our Sheriff & I like most of the deputies...you have to realize that the majority of the population other than natives are mormon & 'mixing' isn't encouraged, so 'no', I don't know them well! Lol...
It's a kinder box...world wide & I pray everyday for healing.
It IS race...it IS religion...it IS resentment of 'authority'...it IS judging by looks...what the heck else do we have to instinctively protect ourselves with? AND...that can be race OR a badge. Crazy.

HE caused his death and I domt feel sorry for him for one second. One policemen or women is killed every 58 hours in our country and most we never hear about. But we now are witnessing and hearing about our policemen and women being killed in an act of terrorism from the hands of fellow citizens who have so lost their way they are no longer citizens that we the people recognize, but yet our government still allows them to have these attitudes and continues to allow them to voice it, saying it their rights. If we don't draw a line in the the USA sand on these issues we might as well start using the term "killed by friendly fire". Laugh if you will it's your right, but if we don't wake up it could happen? Examples need to be made of those who are citizens or not that we are a country of ZERO TOLERENCE towards terrorism.

I haven't read up on all this so forgive me...what were his crimes? I mean, WHY was he on the streets after 33 arrests?
I don't think people hate cops so much as they hate what it's all come to represent in our lovely country where Freedom & Liberty is of a bygone day.
How many of us have heard, "I don't make the laws I just enforce them"?
They take an oath to the Consititution & have every right, indeed, a duty, to refuse to 'enforce' a law that they know is wrong.
We are drowning in laws that fine us for what we 'might' do rather than having actually committed a crime...a real crime, where someone was hurt or injured.
Citizens are being squeezed tighter and tighter...that in no way excuses murder, however, cops commit murder, too, and then they have their 'internal investigation' and are rarely charged. THAT is the anger & I support protesting...peacefully.
We're supposedly 'innocent until proven guilty', yet, LEO's have become the judge, jury & executioner in many instances.
If they want to restore the faith in our police departments they need to 'vet' their own rogue cops instead of protecting them within the 'brotherhood'.

I agree with you in that I don't think cops are perfect, Just that I don't think all black people are justifying these murders as OK. I do strongly feel thought the good people out weight the bad, unfortunately "good acts" are not news worthy by today standards. What I don't understand is that WHY is it OK for some people say "don't judge me on my "skin color" (or you can insert so many other adjectives in there that people don't want to be labeled with today) but it is ok for that SAME group of people to judge others based on that exact same thing - an outward appearance.
I firmly believe there are good and bad people in ALL races, in ALL occupations, in ALL religions, in ALL aspects of life, even good and bad people in the world of barrel racing..... But it does not make it right to keep killing or hating each other based on media shaped persecutions, what others have told us or on some made up scenario in are own minds...
No ONE is going to go through life loving everyone but this is deep, deep, deep seeded hate and that is beyond scary and sad. From what I could tell from one of the pictures, this was not a racial act but pure and simple an act of hate towards police officers. So we are back to the sad, pathetic frame of thought "I want treated with equality but that "pig must die" because he is cop." "He must be bad because he works at the NYPD..." Profiling at its finest. Where are all of the activities now! Where are all the people in the streets screaming for "profiling" to stop? Where are all the preachers shouting from the pulpit that the "Hate must stop?"
I understand what you are trying to say Komet but this is more about a double standard to me then anything...

WE need to stand as a nation of one. If our elected government can't find a way then we need to. Zero tolerance of violence towards those who sign up to defend us on a daily bases should be understood, and if your found guilty of that it should hold our highest punishment. As it stands in this day in age we accept this act of violence towards our protectors as dying in the line of duty, but this is not the case, these men and women are being sacrificed due to what we the people deem the norm, since when is terrorism in our country the norm? Our government as we are talking about this here on BHW is tearing us down again by trying to tell us what is torture and terrorism and then blend those lines of what we should accept as right.... THAT IS WRONG!
One policemen or women is killed every 58 hours in our country and most we never hear about. But we now are witnessing and hearing about our policemen and women being killed in an act of terrorism from the hands of fellow citizens who have so lost their way they are no longer citizens that we the people recognize, but yet our government still allows them to have these attitudes and continues to allow them to voice it, saying it their rights. If we don't draw a line in the the USA sand on these issues we might as well start using the term "killed by friendly fire". Laugh if you will it's your right, but if we don't wake up it could happen? Examples need to be made of those who are citizens or not that we are a country of ZERO TOLERENCE towards terrorism.

its up to us, I see it in my own workplace, city, neighborhood. The us v. them mentality. There's been few consequences in the past generation and they remain shackled to the govt and it causes anger and resentment. They don't know how to think for themselves so the hatred gets regurgitated throughout generations. Time to take back your neighborhoods. I go out there on the internet news sites and read the comments of the readers and most of them agree with me that this was a horribly wrong incident. But a fair number also put police officers up on a pedestal and think they do no wrong. I know some good cops. He|| I know some great cops.... that Will push the authority they are granted with that badge as defined by SCOTUS, and then lie about it later... And it's not just the cops that DO something like this. It includes the cops that see them do this and don't include it in their report. Where I come from a lie by omission is still a lie.
Now... I understand why they do it. This IS a brotherhood of sorts and they have to go with the flow or else be ostracized. Something they cannot afford to have happen if they need others to watch their back someday.
But it just goes to prove my observation. Nobody is perfect. Wearing a badge or not.

Yes there are bad cops.... however, they are the minority. I think you're making some very bold statements. I can tell you before I worked with LE, I had very little respect. Not criminal type disrespect but always thought the worst of them. That they were power hungry, so I am not judging you for feeling that way. However, when you actually know several officers and truly understand what they deal with daily, your perspective chances dramatically.
Now unfortunately many of you will never get this experience but to clump cops as always pushing the limit or trying to get away with things, you're talking about every single group/occupantion in this world. Cops are just criticized more for it.
Also I realize they have more "power." They are to protect and serve and should be held to a higher standard... however, you don't know the facts on how agencies handle any wrongdoing. You only know whats broadcasted on the news. Many agencies have a zero tolerance for this behavior and their investigations are done completely. They have certain criteria they have to met in a court of law.

Exactly. And many times, some of the off issues we do talk about effect barrel racing either directly, or indirectly , one way or another. Talking about issues like these allows us a pla ce to discuss them, and in many cases, understand them after they have happened.
This hits close to home for many of the BBs here, so yes it might not be barrel racing specific, but it still effects many on this board.

As we continue to have a President that is attempting to tear our country, as we have known it apart. As long the people we have to protect us being killed you will see that it does affect people who have horses and barrel race or whatever they enjoy doing with their horses. Chit trickles down hill. Our country is losing any sembelence of what most of us grew up knowing. |

Itsme - 2014-12-21 8:17 PM What a crazy thread. First I say something not 100% to your gals liking and im ganged up on even saying im not worth the price of a bullet. Then things start to get interesting and people are actually using their own minds and reading between the lines not buying into all the propaganda being shoved in our faces. Then one poster questions why this is posted on here and all the people dog pile on her like a pack of sheep just to fit in. what a crazy thread... Were the Bundy ranch supporters that were actually up in arms against the govt inner city blacks just wanting to kill LEOs? How about the couple in Vegas that tried to ambush police there, were they inner city blacks? Oh really, they weren't? So we have white people and militias against govt abusing their authority and inner city blacks against the govt, WOW thats a lot of people. How can we hide this and make sure they will never work together? Enter racism pushed by politicians and media. Whats next? Who knows, martial law? Divide and conquer...it's worked since the beginning of time, I suppose it'll work till the end.

We are spiritual beings with a body...an animal body...a herd animal. Hence the natural instinct to belong to gangs. They're everywhere...and we succumb to the one which most readily accepts us...like begets like...birds of a feather...etc...
It's survival. Nothing wrong in that...we just get caught up in the here & now & forget where we came from.

Sometimes I wonder if the day will come when no one wants to be a cop and no one wants to be a soldier because of the politics and lack of appreciation.

Imagine yourself, 13 years old, Christmas day. Your dad was executed 5 days earlier, assassinated, shot in the head at point blank range without a fighting chance. For what? For doing his job. For donning the uniform. For wearing the badge. For keeping chaos, unrest, and animosity at bay every single day. For serving an ungrateful and violent public.
Imagine yourself looking underneath the Christmas tree at a gift with a tag on it saying, "From Dad", only knowing his funeral is next week.
Imagine your Dad being blatantly murdered at the hands of a crazed and radical individual, driven by media and political-instilled hate all because he wears a Police Officer's uniform.
Now, imagine yourself, a newly wed, ready to get your life on track with the love of your life. 2 months of marriage under your belt and you and your husband are planning your first Christmas together as a married couple. While out Christmas shopping for him, you get a phone call saying your husband has been shot and is in the hospital fighting for his life, only to find out he'd died in his patrol car for no reason.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a reality we of the law enforcement community live with day by day. Every Police Officer's goal at the end of the day isn't to %@*&% you over for a speeding ticket or to pick on you because you're black, red, purple, white, a dog, or anything.
Their goal at the end of the day is to come home safe to the loving, embracing arms of their families at home. That is it.
So while you sit there, sympathizing with the criminals and becoming part of the problem by saying, "Hands up, don't shoot" or "I can't breathe" and preaching an ignorant and biased agenda against an individual who would willingly die for you in an instant, no matter if you like them or not; while you sit there with hate and distaste over the fact that they are "all racist" and they can hide behind the badge and without mercy, murder anyone they please-while you sit there and bask in all the hatred that has been ignited this past year, understand that they will ALWAYS be there to help you.
How could anyone have the audacity to hate the protectors? The unseen heroes of every day life?

If you think your rights as a citizen have been violated, file a complaint. Yes, Internal Affairs DOES listen. Comply with officers' orders and use your head. And who the hell are the cops pushing? Thugs, thieves and garbage THAT's who! These idiots protesting don't care about Michael Brown or anyone else. They are looking to stir the pot, cause damage and loot.
