One of my horses often stocks up in all 4 of his pasterns. He lives in a small pen because he can't be with most horses as they attack him relentlessly (he's a huge pansy). He has been on on rest for over 2 months now due to strangles then a hoof abscess. Both are cleared up and I'm slowly starting to work him again. I'm sure being in that pen for so long with nothing more than a little hand walking allowed is a big factor, but I noticed it even before that. If I'm out there in the evening and KNOW I'll be out the next day I'll put BOT's on him and those help but if he doesn't wear them for one night he's puffed up again. The swelling isn't extreme and he doesn't seem sore in the least. I just don't know if I should be concerned that maybe there's some underlying issue. Do some horses just stock up super easy? I'm thinking of getting the BOT polos and wrapping them a little further down that usual (so they actually reach the pasterns) and see if wearing those while exercising will help.

Awesome! I just checked their site. One of the symptoms it lists is sore back/tight muscles which he also has some trouble with. Guess I'll be ordering some...

Ok … not to steal this thread … but … my horse is stocking up in the back legs … in a stall and now he won't even let me put a saddle on him! Could this be a similar kidney situation??

Yes! The bars of your saddle sit right over the kidney, which have little protection.
To the OP, cleaning up the kidneys should do the trick like the others have said.
