Insect Bite/Sore & Rubbing

Extreme Veteran Posts: 420	My horse came up to the barn with a huge patch of hair missing from the side of his mouth up to his jaw. At first I thought he had the dreaded ring worm but it looks to be a reaction from a couple of bites that he was trying to scratch. One has a round, hard lump under the skin and the other has a hole and no hair around it where his skin made that nasty amber fluid. Once I picked it off, it looked like it had a small spot of puss (or possibly a shriveled up larvae?). I have recently given him a Zimectrin Gold and I had been putting M-T-G on the area (initially thinking ring worm). Any suggestions on what else I can do? Something to relieve the itch? Hydrocortizone cream? Blue Star Ointment? Thanks!

I'm Over It!! Posts: 2830	Your horse needs an antihistamine to stop the itching from the inside. You'll probably have to get it from your vet.

I'm Over It!! Posts: 2830	That should do the trick. And if you still want to use a topical, I've used hydrocortisone creme before, but MSG should work just as well.
