it's not a good idea to oil the roughout
didn't know this I just bought one and had planned to oil the rougeout side too. I have oiled the rougeout on jockeys and fenders before figured it might darken it but would be better for it.

The roughouts that I have had were all ready heavy oiled and never needed to oil but I did keep the underside oiled. Here is one that I custom, but sold it cause it didnt fit my gelding.

pros easy to clean, sticky
cons sticky, lol. The stirrup fenders cause my jeans to ride up my leg on my new roughout. I had tall top boots though, so I bought the roper style boots to see if that helps. Waiting for it to dry up some to see if that helps. If I remember right, after awhile that problem goes away. I am not a very patient person though.
