I noticed this moring when I pulled out of the driveway that my tree has all these holes in it.. It's a Bradford Pear tree and the holes weren't there few weeks ago.

Woodpeckers or some other type of bird. They are eating the bugs in your tree. The tree should be okay. You can get some paint and cover the areas where they have pecked holes in your tree.

I hope not.. I think I'd have holes in my window if it were buckshot.. Is only on the east side of the tree... My house is just on the west side of the tree..

LRQHS - 2014-12-29 2:18 PM Woodpecker??
I have seen woodpeckers in the area but I didn't think they would go that close to the ground... Some of the holes are about 6" off the ground. AND man I'd think I could hear them if they were out there that close to my house.. I'm hoping not some kind of beetle or worm that's gonna kill the tree.

woodpeckers ... they will eat/pound holes at any level if they have found an insect they love to eat. Spray for insects, then paint the holes. Easily fixed

its a sapsucker, member of the woodpecker family, it licks the sap from the tree. It wont hurt the tree because it doesn't ever go deep enough, is what I was told. But I think they make something to spread on the tree to keep the birds away or wrap it with some kind of mesh.

I have four Bradford Pear's two have died because they get weak from the holes and Florida weather blows them over in a storm. My trees were planted 20 years ago.
