I am going to the states for an unpaid internship as a Canadian. Do I need a visa to get across the border?
Anyone else ever intern in another country and know how to go about this?
Apparently its illegal to intern as a canadian if not a registered school, but I highly doubt that as people intern from other countries at barns all the time.

Thank you. I read the site, but can't find a visa that would really pertain to me. I will give them a call. Called the border, and they said I can't go down for an internship whatsoever. I'm hoping theres a way.. I can't understand why I wouldn't be able to.. I'm not getting paid so not taking a job away from americans

Maybe try for just a vacation visa? I'm not sure how it all works, but I know it can be a pain. I had a friend from Iran who had to juggle around the different types until she got her green card. I bet they will know more at the office. Since it's an unpaid internship i wouldn't think it should be a huge issue.

It looks like it will just be easiest to just go as a tourist. We're allowed up to 6 months for travel and visiting purposes, and since I'm not being paid, I think it will be fine. Thanks!
