I didn't watch the entire long go or the short, but I saw three horses fall completely down. The seasoned rodeo horses would come to a complete stop on the backside trying to stay upright because it was so shifty. Such a disgrace. I can't believe they keep having it at a venue that is so notorious for terrible ground.

They said the quarter horse show had really bad ground too. Stands to reason since the barrels ran in the same arena as the roping and barrel race. No sense in this type of ground.

There is not really anything the producers can do about it... they can try but you can only do so much when there isn't enough dirt in the building to give you a good base and still have enough on top to work to give the horses what they need to be able to get traction in. I went and watched the tripping finals for ACRA just last month.. after the tripping was done, before the night performance started.. they worked the ground. When the tractor drive set the ground hog down to get deep to work it right... it stopped the tractor and we heard "growling" sounds... HE HIT THE CONCRETE underneath! I have also heard people say they have seen sparks fly from shoes during barrel races, when the horses are actaully hitting the concrete underneath. The fairgrounds is who needs to step up and do something.. add more dirt so there will be enough depth to work with. I believe they have been approached, but refuse to act. It is a shame.. as once all the producers are gone, it will be too late to fix it. If there aren't producers still there to attest to the ground conditions, even if they fix it, no one will come back. It is a shame, for sure.

Has the ground always been that bad in there? I ran there back in '04-'06 maybe for the Drysdales NBHA show and don't remember it being that bad? Or did NBHA just have their ground covered and together?
