I have had this gelding about two weeks. He has edema under his belly towards his front legs. Blood work all came back fine. Vet said it's likely a deep bruise. It's about the width of a volleyball. It hasn't gone down. Any one had this before?

Have had one on the hip before had to end up lancing it to get it to go down. What did your vet tell you to do about it?

Did your vet ultrasound it to see what the contents looked like?  It is likely either blood or pus and they will each look different on ultrasound.  Could be a hematoma as your vet is telling you, or it could be something such as a pigeon fever abscess. The fact that is has not gone down at all leads me to lean more towards an abscess.

He did not ultrasound. Recommended dmso. Was going to give him Lasix but when he palpated him felt he was lacking in water. So even though he has access to salt blocks I've been putting some on his grain. If it's not better by Friday, we will be going back for more tests. Since it is so bitter cold, windy and the fact that they are on bale feeders....I'm hoping it has something to do with lack of motion. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow so I'm going to lung him.
