I am single, no assets, don't own any land or a house, not in school, no major life events or accidents.....the most basic of basic scenarios. I'm probably OK filing online, right? What do you do? Can a tax pro really get me more money? Or how does that even work? I don't think they can.....

Mine are very simple but I pay to have someone do them. I figure my accountant stays up on the tax laws (which I know nothing about) so I just feel more comfortable having someone do mine - I am probably throwing money away. I'd like to hear what others say about this.

I am a CPA (not a tax accountant though), and naturally, I do my own taxes. I think you should be fine doing them online if you're taking the standard deduction and just have a W-2. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Whiteboy - 2015-01-05 12:23 PM If they are simple there is no reason to have someone else do it. That is as long as you can read. I use freetaxusa.com It is very user friendly.
I used them last year too. I believe I will be doing my boyfriend's taxes that way this year because he got absolutely HOSED by a big name preparer when he brought in his W2 from work plus a 1099 from rodeo winnings. The extra fees they snuck in on him were ridiculous.
