But not in the way I had intended!
I picked up a young, gaited gelding on Friday to be my new trail horse. I'm pretty sure he's trying to kill himself. Saturday - he get his foot stuck around the one wire in my fence that is not hot, then decided he was tired of solitary confinement and decided to join the others by going through the fence. Luckily, no injuries, but I spent Saturday fixing fence and getting a stronger fence charger!
Then...this morning. Took the dogs out around 6 am and all the horses are fine. I head out the door at 7:30, but see no sign of him. So I go out to the pasture to look and find him in the middle of the pond (I'm using that term liberally, it's a 20' wide x 2.5' deep "pond"). He obviously fell through the ice and got stuck. Luckily I checked on him before I left for work or I would have come home to a dead horse.
I was able to get out to him and put a halter on and after about 5 min was able to get him out. Got his blanket off, a new one on, and dried him off as best I could. Then we started walking to get his blood flowing, and by 8:00 he was looking and acting back to normal.
I am pretty sure I thanked God at least 100 times for letting me find him alive and being able to get him out!
