Location: North Dakota | I'm looking for the most shock absorbant, comfortable pad I can find that is 1/2" or less. I've looked at the thinline felt liner (to be used with a navajo) and I know 5 star makes a half inch pad. I've heard Saddlerights are thin but I'm wondering how thin. Thanks! |

| I bought a used saddle right in good condition and sold it a week later. My horse did not care for it. I could get on with the saddle right and have a terrible ride, go retack with my 1/2" 5 star and he would ride great. But I know a lot of people who love their saddle rights.
If your saddle fits well, go with a 5 star, hands down

Location: between here and there | Saddlerights are thin but if they don't work, they don't. Sometimes I 've seen them make a good fitting saddle jump up in the back. Personal preference is the 5 Stars!

Location: Utah | I have a saddleright and a 7/8" 5 star and love them both. Depends on the saddle and the horse what one I choose to use. Both are expensive and well worth the money. I have rode my saddleright for 15 years with a liner underneath it is still in great conditon. My 5 star is used by me with out a liner and by my husband with a casa zia pad under for roping for 6 years.

Location: on my horse | I have a thin Charmayne James air ride pad that I got on a 70% off sale, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again at full retail though, it's held up surprisingly well through abuse and multiple horses and it's still got some "fluff" and body left and its several years (5 I think) old at this point. |

| I like the professional choice contoured airride pads! I never understand why people don't like them! They hold up great and you can always put a Navajo on or under them! |

Location: Phoenix | I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 1/2" 5 Star. I have a 7/8" and they are so soft and supportive--you'd totally be fine with a 1/2".
Ive be always wanted to try a Saddleright or Clinton Anderson PRS pad. |

Location: North Dakota | I've had a 5 star before and liked it but really didn't notice any difference in the horse between that, my Classic Equine ESP, and my other felt/fleece pad. I still kinda want to try the Saddleright. In case it doesn't work, do they hold their resale value? |

I've had a couple of the Air Ride pads, and I'm going to have to disagree with you on them holding up...I was replacing my pad yearly due to them compressing and breaking down. I switched to an Impact Gel and have had great luck. I know the Impact Gels aren't a lot of people's favorite, but I've had mine for around 5 years with no issues! I'd like to try a 5 Star at some point though. |

| I have a Saddleright and a 5 Star... My open horse has high withers and I LOVE the Saddleright on him and his back hasn't been sore since I started riding him with it... Haven't used the 5 Star in a while |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I don't see a lot of people using them anymore but I use a Impact Gel. I love it. My mare is short and very wide. In order to make any saddle fit she has to have a thin pad. She's already in a 9.5in gullet with flatter bars. I tried different pads anywhere from the $300 pads to the cheap ones and the Impact Gel was the only thing that didn't slip. |

Location: Lewisburg, Tennessee | I LOVE my 1/2 inch 5 star pad.  I get compliments on it all the time, everybody wants to know what thickness it is. I think too many people ride with too thick of saddle pads anyway....but that's a whole 'nuther story, lol!
I had a Saddleright and sold it - didn't care for it. I also have 3 of Charmayne's pro choice pads that I use from time to time depending on the horse I'm riding.

Thin saddle pads?
