I know this is an usual topic, but I'm interested to know if anyone on this board has any experience with this... It's been a very long time since I've done anything for myself, before marriage and kids 5+ years ago, but over the past few months I've really worked hard to get myself back in very good shape(working out, eating well, etc.) With that being said, I feel like I'm in great shape and for the most part I look decent in a bathing suit. Although bathing suit modeling is not the direction I'm looking to go in, I'm very interested in maybe modeling for some western clothing companys. Ariat, wrangler, Cruel Girl, etc... Is there anyone with this kind of experience and was it worth it?

Most of the companies you have listed use their endorsee's or friends to model their product for them.

I figured that was the case. My only resistance is I don't want to apply through some large data base and be a number to a creeper company that's shoved in a back ally somewhere. I would like to get involved with someone who already has an inside to a company or agency. I'm very outgoing to a certain extent, but I'm not brave enough to do something without having some info on it first.

My daughter started modeling about a year ago. You need a agency (do your homework before you sign). Almost all of my daughters work comes through the agency.

Also go online to the places you are interested in modeling for. Some have a yearly model search such as NRS and Buck Ferguson. Check out facebook pages too often they post when they will be searching. Get some really good professional pictures to submit.

I know agencies are pivotal in this kind of work. Another thing to note is if you don't totally fit the typical model image because of age, height, etc. They also have a special slot for 'character' models where they are looking for a certain look rather than the regular model standard (5'7" plus, size 0-2, under 25). A lot of people find modelling work that way because people are looking for a more athletic looking girl or something (called a 'fit' model). Just letting you know there are a number of different categories. I have never done so but have had friends do it.

Thank you for the information... I fortunately don't fit the particular model image. I'm 5'5'' 125# with a very athletic build, I have big thighs, calves and broad shoulders and back. I would like to get into a more modest, athletic type modeling, and of course western clothing.

I had 5 daughters model and they did really well. Great spending money for them. The evenly is important. You are older so you won't get BS with pie in the sky crapola. X did some modeling also as an older woman. My oldest daughter has 4 kids and she is in shape and still gets calls to model. She in in a video on YouTube grace Adel or Adel Grace clothing and accessories. I say go for it and get your info out there and contact people and have other people spread the word. You really need an agency that believes in you.Post some pictures for the guys on BHW!

i have two kids myself and since having my last 7 months ago, I vowed to myself that not only would I get in shape for myself, but also for my kids and husband. Luckily I have never been over weight. I've been very active in sports and rodeoing my entire life and getting back in shape for my family has given me the drive to become fit again. Now I'm looking for the resources to step out of my shell a little and share to everyone that even after kids it's possible to be in great shape again... I work in the medical field, family medicine, and I see every day how easy it is for some to lose faith in being fit and healthy after children. I'll admit it's hard to work 9 hours a day, come home feed kids and get them ready for bed, and then find what little time is left in the afternoon to hit the gym. I want to become a positive voice and roll model for my town, myself, and my family.

Thanks again DJG for the great advice!
