I am very interested in this, as well. I would also like to know how often most people ice their horses...?

I ordered some IceHorse hock wraps but haven't gotten them yet to try. My friends who have the tendon wraps love them and my vet recommended the IceHorse wraps for my horse who gets hock injections. I'll probably use them after heavy exercise or after a run.

For lower extremities, I am still a firm believer in a good old pair of whirlpool boots, ice and water.

I recently invested in a pair of Hidez compression ice socks and LOVE THEM. and Customer service has been phenomenal. I would highly recommend them. I ice for 20 minutes post-running or hard workouts.

IMO, ice/cooling works better after being worked.  I like warmth before, cooling after.

That's what I have always thought.... But then I read somewhere (and I believe it was on here, but cannot for the life of me remember who it might have been) where they said that you want to keep things tight and compressed to reduce injury (instead of warming them up)..... It made some sense, but not really enough for me to go against what seems to be more traditional!

Best for your horse! I love my Back on Track stuff before I run, then hosing the legs for awhile, and following up with ice boots or poultice! I've been borrowing a pair of ice boots from a friend, their just a cheaper pair, with the ice packets. I'm looking at buying a pair of ice horse boots as you can take the ice packets out instead of freezing the whole boot. Much easier to keep frozen on travel.

I want Softrides new ice boot. It can do whirlpool. But they are pricey!

Honestly I have a whirlpool machine/cooler that I velcros to myself after a surgery. I use this as I know from personla experience that it keeps it col yet not too cold. I'm sure anyone could get one from their PT and/or Dr's

When I spoke to my vet about doing this prior to workout, he said absolutely no, as it increases the chance of shearing the tendons off.

I love my game ready

For a quick wrap

I found the jt ice boots have work the best for me, they stay in place, and even on the leg they stay frozen for 30min-60, I have always had a cold leg after use, I leave on for min 45 min. I got mine on amazon for 30/boot

Yes ^^^ To me this is a no brainer. Ice/cold makes muscles contract (shorten) Heat makes them expand (loosen) That is why we 'warm up' and 'cool down'

Do you buy both the compression socks and the ice socks?  I can't tell how they work from the website.

The way I understand it, is there's just the plain compression socks OR the compression socks with pockets on the outside that you can fill with ice. Those can still be used JUST for compression without the ice as well.

Just realized I will need ice for the Hidez wraps - no LQ can make that difficult in the summer!  But, I guess I would need a freezer even for the Ice Vibe boots....  Well, better than buying ice all the time!  Hmmmmm.....

I usually have a small ice chest for drinks so its easy for me. I use one of the small quart feed buckets full of ice and end up dumping ice out bc I dont use it all. Im not sure how much exactly but its not much ice.

BOT products 4 hours prior to saddle up for competition, and ice boots for 20 minutes after hard workout or competitive run.
