So that is when I decided to go to culinary school and pursue a career as a chef. There are A LOT of ups and down in this field ( as with many career fields) but I never felt more happy! |

Location: Minnesota | I work in Management for a very large company. I'm in charge of auditing, policies and procedures within my marketing company. I never went to college after high school so I've basically just worked my way up. Ill be 25 in a few weeks and I'm really thinking its time to go back to school. My company will pay for me to go back to school if its something related to my career now. I'm thinking Business Management but an Agriculture Degree would be my choice if I was to decide to leave this company. I'd also love a job in Law Enforcement. Those would bey top 3.

There r so many different directions u can go into with nursing and a ton of different opportunitues, but u do need to pay your dues before alot of these opportunities will arise. I am thinking about Masters in education now to teach nursing. the trades are where alot of Joba are at these days. My son will be graduating with his AAS in welding and has job opportunities up the ying yang. |

Location: Where you need a paddle... Oregon! | I work at an elementary school as an instructional assistant in the special education department. This means I might teach small groups of kids who have some sort if learning disability and do not perform at grade level. It could be math, reading or writing. I have a special way with kids with behavior issues. Last year I was at a school where I spent most of my day with 5th grade and helping diffuse fights and behavior. This year I was moved to a school where I worked before because there was a need in the kindergarten. I like my job, but my take home pay is only $1200 a month. This has been fine because it was enough to help supplement my husbands income. I'm going through a divorce though and can't live on that. I'm 44 and will be going to college and working for the first time ever. I'd like to stay in the school because I have 8 years in and PERS, etc. so I'm going into a 2 year Speech Pathology program. I considered Sped teacher but it's a 4-6 year program and at my age it isn't realistic. But there is a huge demand for Sped teachers! It's mainly managing your sped assistants, scheduling, writing iep's, working with parents, administration and teachers and tons if meetings. But it's a very employable career. |

| I have three degrees one in Ag business could not find a job so went back to school got degree in Radiology LOVED IT! LOVED IT! but got burned out after 27 years so went back to school got teaching degree and teach 9-12 health science and I Love, Love, Love, Love, Love, it. If I had know 30 years ago how much fun it would be to teach I would have done that all these year.
Don't get me wrong teaching is by far the hardest job I have ever had, much more stressful, much more time consuming, much more every thing but when that student comes in your room and smiles at you and say Good Morning and that is a child who has never talked to anyone because they are so shy. It makes me beam I Love that. I love it when they come show me their report cards before they turn them back in to their teacher. I could go on but you get the pic. it is what you make of it as is any career. Good Luck I hope you find your life's calling. |

| I have a bach in Ag Econ and an associate's in Agronomy. I work for a large grain company in farm origination and also work with one of our largest soybean oil customers on verifying sustainable farming practices in our draw region. Overall I love my job - everyone has days when they want to bang their head on the wall, mine are just few and far between.
I also serve on our origination review team, and one of our biggest priorities is making sure we have the right people in the right field. My advice to you is before you go back to school for something, really think about your likes and dislikes and what you are going to be happy doing. For example, while an RN might pay well, if you are super analytical and not much of a people person, it may not be the choice for you. If you are super good with numbers and really enjoy checking and double checking that things are correct - accounting might be the way to go.
We see way too many people at our recruiting events who's basic personality does not align with what they want to pursue as a career. It doesn't end well. |

Location: west of East Texas | I have a BBA in Accounting. I got my CPA license about 10 years after I got out of college. Now you pretty much need to stay in college for the 5th year and get the Masters then sit for the CPA exam right then. In my opinion, this profession is sure thing to have a fantastic career that will easily allow you to fund your horse habit. Every industry needs accountants so you could pick an area that interests you to work in.
Regardless of your interests, take a good look at the job availability, economic swings impact, and career total earnings. |

I'm a field marketing rep in IL and SE Missouri (25%role) and my main job is managing our company crop insurance agents in the Delta and West. I love this company, I travel ALOT, and never dreamed I'd be a manager (and I'm the only female sales manager and the youngest manager, lol.. Crap I was the first female field rep and still the youngest one). It has it's days but I have an awesome group of people that I work with. I do really miss working directly with the farmers.
Being a manager has more struggles than wins and lots of griping. I lovingly say I work with a bunch of peacocks personality wise. I seriously have an amazing group to work with and get to learn a lot from them also. I'm lucky that I left a big book of business that I built from zero or it would have been really tough to earn their trust (or respect).. |

Location: North Dakota | I'm an after hours dispatcher for linemen. We handle over 70 different companies and it can be extremely stressful, the hours suck (12hr shifts on weekends and I work at least 3 weekends out of the month as well as 2-5 8hr shifts during the week). Working with my team and the linemen is fun and when it's quiet we get to play cards, surf Internet, etc. I'm in school but am just totally burnt out. I am going for computer information systems. I switched to that from business. No career has caught my eye. It seems like EVERYONE recommends medical field or accounting related stuff, but math and science were my worst subjects and they don't interest me at all. I worked up to advanced accounting in hs but hated it. I'm at a total stand still and I hate it. I just want a job where I can work with my hands rather than at a desk. I like to be outside too.

I agree with ks_cowgirl, tons of opportunities in accounting. I have my Bachelors in Business Administration with an Accounting focus, then received my MBA, and finally I got my CPA. I chose to stay in private accounting (accounting for privately held businesses) as opposed to working for an accounting firm; it just suited my personality better :)
I am an accounting manager now, although I'm the youngest person in our department, simply because I have my CPA and my degrees. I get to wear jeans to work every day, and even have the option to work at home if the weather gets yucky.
You can get a job pretty much anywhere with accounting and it will most likely be able to fund your horse habit, and there will always be a demand. |

This is my degree also. I am a Marketing/Promotions Manager in the gaming industry. My degree prepared me well for the field I am in, though I never would have picked this particular atmosphere from a list. I have been here for ten years now and it is always changing and evolving. Sometimes, I work crazy hours but the pay is good. If you are the type of person who easily gets bored doing the same thing day in and day out, this type of work may be for you.

| My career is HR focused. I'm currently working in the recruitment office that focuses on the hiring for the entire civilian workforce, from students to journeyman level candidates. I coordinate job fair logistics, work with candidates and manage the student employment program for both our sites as a part of my duties. Our office is so fun, dynamic and a huge array of personalities. This is literally a dream job, even when I want to pull my hair out because we're doing three distinct hiring pushes within 5 weeks, along with our normal college & journey level recruiting. Two years of being in the program and teaching on a restricted licenese are required, then I can graduate from the program with full teaching licensure and later take the praxis tests to become certified in other areas as well. I have substitute taught for the past three years in addition to my newspaper job and discovered that education is what I should have done the first time I went through college, but I may not have been ready for it at age 17. I do not teach the grad course alone. It is done under the Department of Lab Animal Medicine and the director. But the subject matter is such that there are those of us that are "experts" in various aspects. (Regulatory, transgenic breeding, microsurgery, handling/sampling techniques are my purview for ex.) So there are a few of us teaching the various sessions.
Yeah a general degree will get your foot in the door at least. But it took time and experience/certification to get to the higher paying job that I have now. |

Location: MT | I have a BA in Environmental Science with a Biology emphasis.....that I have NEVER used! I worked for the federal government as a lead aircraft dispatcher for wildland fires from 2000-2011. In 2011, I got married and took a downgrade to an executive assistant position in order to transfer. Fast forward to November of 2014 when my husband landed a really great position and we moved again. I resigned my position and have started my own business. So far it's been worth taking the leap but it is often scary to follow your dreams! I've made tack items for quite awhile but now am working to make them for my online store. It's definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. An example was that yesterday I was working on setting up my payment gateway for my merchant account on my website. Totally something I have never done before and have zero expertise in, but I'm bulldozing my way through it!
I guess my advice is that it's never too late to change the career track that you are on!

| I have a BS in Animal Science and trained and vet teched for awhile and then fell into the Aerospace industry. I come from an aviation family so it wasn't too much of a stretch. Now I'm a project manager for a global company that manufactures seats and other components for commercial airliners. LOVE IT. I spent a lot of time trying to find what I thought I would love that would still allow me to support myself and my horses etc.,,,and now I know God's plan is where it's at!

| I have a bachelor's in Management (Human Resources) and in Nursing. I work in the coal industry as a Safety Records Analyst. That entails being compliant with the state and federal regulations on Training among several other things. I also run due diligence on sub contracted workers at our facilities - this totals almost 2000 people. I enjoy nursing and have used it at home with several sick relatives and plan to keep up my license - I just couldn't work all weekends or all nights with having small children. May be later :) I have flex time and plenty of funds to go play on the weekend if I want to. |

| I have my A.S in Paralegal and B.A in Criminal Justice. I worked in a law firm, then to dispatch and now I am working as a release program coordinator in our jail. Kinda a dream job for me. I had to pay my dues and many tears were shed over the rejection but at 25, I am doing what I feel I was meant to. |

Location: Winging It in KY | Went to college for Equine Studies and Pre Vet. Graduated and was not sure what I was going to do so ended up galloping racehorses. Galloping was just too hard on my body so I took my barrel horses to the track and began to pony horses. Liked it but not my dream job. One morning found my self in the right place at the right time. Had a girls bridle break while she was galloping and she was being run off with, no bridle on the horses head. The outrider had already tried to catch the horse and it had gotten by him. The girl was yelling for help so I ended up catching the horse by his nostrils and getting him pulled up. The girl was very thankful. Next thing I knew I was called to the track office ( I just knew I was in deep doo doo, LOL!) They wanted me to consider taking the outrider job. Whew! So I did for several years, then decided I had had enough racetrack and moved on. It was very stressful and not really where I wanted to be anymore. Now I work in an automotive repair shop. I pretty much run the office, do estimates for repairs, order parts, do the billing / books and make sure the customers are happy. I have been known to turn a wrench or two but I think a girl needs to know how to do stuff like that for when you are out on the road alone with the horses. I like it and it's an 8 - 5 job with weekends off so I can horse show. |

Location: Tx | I worked as an OPC (Order Process Coordinator) for the same company for 5 years. I was offered a position in a similar field for exact pay and 5 mins from my home in Jun '14 and it turned out to be a horrible place to work! Thankfully they fired me due to cutbacks in Nov and now I am a bond agent. I love my job, but I will more than likely be returning to school in the next year to finish my degree (only lack my math courses) and get my certification to become a paralegal. |

Location: ND--it snows, it floods, it snows, it floods | I'm in the ag industry as a Sales Agronomist and I love my job. I have a B.S in Agriculture with an emphasis on Crop and Weed production. To do Ag sales you don't really need a degree but you do need to have some sort of experience in agriculture at least.
On a side note: to those that say they have this or that degree but could not find jobs ESPECIALLY in the ag retail market have either not looked hard enough or are not willing to move away from home. I say this because it is a job seekers market right now around here for retail sales in agriculture. |
