I purchased a saddle from someone on Facebook last Monday.  She was off work that day and said she was going to the post office as soon as I sent the money.  I hadn't heard from her (or received a tracking number) by Friday, so I messaged her again.  She said she hadn't made it to the PO on Monday, but "had the saddle in her car and was going on her lunch break, she would message me a tracking number around 1pm."  So Friday and Saturday pass with no word from her.  I messaged her AGAIN yesterday and she hasn't opened the message, although I'm willing to bet she saw it and just hasn't opened it.

My question is, how long would you wait before you file a dispute?

Thanks, I think I'm going to message her and say if I don't get a tracking number today that I am filing a dispute.  Maybe that will get a response!

You paid by Paypal I hope?  If so you can file a dispute now and it'll maybe get her butt in gear, or it also might tick her off.  Who knows but yes you can file it now.  With Paypal you have 60 or 90 days if I remember right.

I know that PayPal says to wait 24 hours before shipping after you've recieved the money to let it clear.... but you've waited much longer than 24 hours.  I'd start filing a dispute.

I would go ahead and file a dispute, whether it makes her mad or not, waiting over a week to ship a saddle is ridiculous. Only way to me it would be acceptable is if you agreed to those terms from the beginning, which obviously you didn't. File the dispute, it will either make her send it or it will go ahead and start your process of getting your money back.

Thanks everyone, y'all are making it easier for me to file a dispute.  I messaged her a little bit ago, she still hasn't opened it.  If I don't have a tracking number by 5pm I'm starting the process, this is just ridiculous.  Even if she had waited 24 hours to ship I'd likely still have the saddle by now!

This situation is why I am so nervous about buying a saddle from an individual. I have been saddle shopping and need to buy but just can't make myself buy.

I really hope this works out and you either get your saddle or your money.

Just thought I would update on what's happened.  Hopefully no one else has to go through this!

I messaged her last night (5pm her time) and said that I would be filing a dispute if I did not hear from her or get a tracking number.  Never heard from her so this morning a I filed the dispute.  The money was credited back to me within a few hours.   About 1pm she sends me a picture of the saddle and the receipt at the post office and that she just shipped it.  I let her know that I was extremely irritated and had already filed a claim.  She says cancel it and that she didn't charge me enough for shipping, she would like me to pay the difference.  Also, that it hadn't been a week so she didn't understand why I had filed a claim already.  She claimed her horse coliced and she lost her phone charger so she was not able to message me.

I called the post office she had taken it to, verified that they had not yet shipped the saddle, and that if she wanted she could go pick it up and get a full refund on shipping.  I let her know that and got a smart a** response back.

I understand emergencies, especially when it comes to horses.  But I find it hard to believe that in the 96 hours or so between when I last spoke with her on Friday and when she shipped today, that she couldn't take the time to let me know what was going on.  Especially when she used the colic story last Friday.   Not really sure where it stands now, she hasn't replied back to my message, but it appears that the tracking number has been cancelled (tracking number not found), so I guess I'll just wait and see what happens now!

So glad you got your money back!!!  People don't go without phone charges this day and age.  I don't buy her story....and for her to ask for the extra money for shipping is ridiculous.

Sounds like she got your messages yesterday about filing the dispute, so hurried to the PO to ship it and thought that would rectify the situation. She probably did not think the money would be credited to you that fast. She was suppose to ship the saddle over a week ago, why could she not ship it the 5 days prior to her horse colicing, that's a bogus excuse. I would wash my hands of her and that saddle and find another one. I have bought several saddles from people on this site and NEVER had any issue, I am sorry you found a bad apple though. Glad you got your money back!!!!

People like this irritate me, I sell saddles on line occasionally and I know people get nervous about trusting someone to ship when they are supposed to.  I think you're better off without the saddle, there's no excuse for that crap.

You can get a phone charger for $5 at walgreens... Not worth losing the $500-$4000 she probably just lost on the saddle deal. Don't feel bad, you did the right thing.
