What saddles have the best bar shoulder flare? I have been trying to fit my mare and it is being a pain! Tonight my good friend that does saddle fitting, fit her in a ROOHIDE cutting saddle. Oh man what an amazing saddle! It was older, but it felt like an old glove when I sat in it. I loped some circles and could feel a huge difference. She told my mare needs a 6ish gullet. 8 top bar and 13 bottom bar. Any one know which way to look for brands with theses types of similar measurements?

I don't know about exact measurements and my saddles are all out in the trailer but the Cactus Charmayne James has a lot of flare.

Also not sure of exact measurements, but Meleta Brown saddles have a lot of flare and shoulder room. You can find some great used ones, they are so well made, they look new yrs later.

I found a picture that I took of the front of one of my CJ's.  It doesn't show it with a tape measure but you can see the flare.

Thank you ladies. I have a few emails out on some Meleta brown's barrel saddles as well as the cactus saddles. Does anyone know for sure how much of a bar flare that those two saddles have? I looked them up last night and couldn't find the bottom bar and top bar width measurements anywhere

Meleta is on here, message her to ask about the actual numbers on her tree! Sorry, but I can't remember her username. I'm sure someone else knows it.

I'll measure mine when I go out.  We've got freezing rain right now so not sure when I'll toughen up enough to go out in it. LOL

Wimpyb is meleta and she is AMAIZING she has 2 trees both with a TON of shoulder flair. Her original tree is for a horse with more rock in there back or a dip behind the shoulder the other is for a horse with a table top back. I found a used meleta original and snatched it up and absolutely love it

I would appreciate that greatly! I have asked 5 or 6 people for those measurements and They either have NO clue what I am asking for or dont get back to me. These aren't cheap saddles, I dont want to buy and then have to resale to purchase something else that might work. How do you like the seat on your cactus? I am pretty use to a deep pocket type seat.

I personally like them.  I bought my first one when CJ moved to Cactus so I've had it quite a few years.  I now have 3 of them. I wouldn't call them a deep seat.  They are lower in the swells than some saddles but I've tried those deep seated saddles and I personally don't like them.  I think its what you get used to and what works for you. I promise I'll get you some measurements.  It might be later today before I do it.

Double J - contact them about their Pro and Buff models.  I have the Buff and the flare is amazing in it.  Couldn't be happier with the freedom that it provides my big shouldered gelding while still giving me a 6 3/4 gullet.  Took this horse from being sore and not clocking to major improvement.

Meleta Browns and LMs by Double J I know have flared bars.  Love them both, prefer the Meleta.  And she will be more then happy to help anyone!  Just give her time to respond as I know she isn't on a computer a lot.

You can get a Double J with regular or wide fit tree with nearly any angled bars.  Double J and Martin as well as CIRCLE Y make their own trees.  Most dealers have trees to sit on your horse to actually see how the tree will fit.  It is hard to see how a saddle is actually fitting once it is built.  If you can't get with a dealer, go to the sites they will send you a saddle to try for three days.

If one flares out it will look like the saddle I posted above. I'll see if I can find a picture of one that's straight.

Here's a Brandi halls that is considered to have FQHB just like my CJ.  This picture isn't the best but its all I have on the computer without going to the trailer.  You can see a little bit how its real straight going down to the skirt.

I own a meleta, a lm nueva, and a pozzi. All three have differing degrees of flare. pozzi has the least of the 3, meleta has more, nueva has the most :)

Im a fan of Shilohs, but was not happy with my Contender's, I ordered one of the first orginal ones back in 2007 and that fit my narrow high withered horse great, he outgrew that though and don't think they fit a horse well that has shoulders. I ordered a Contender in 2012 on a 7" gullet (the other's are either a 6 3/4 or a 6 1/2) for my avg built app and he turned into a naughty bucker, ended up with a 7" crown c and he improved and was freed up quite a bit more. He is not in an 8 crown c, but I still consider him avg.  My favorite saddle is a Jerri Mann Shiloh I think they have the most bar flare from all the Shilohs I've tried, they are just a little more than the Ed Wrights as well. I've talked to Meleta and she thinks the new tree she has which is wider than her orginal would fit my app. I just wish I could find a used JM in a 14.5-15", dang near impossible.

Heres the JM

Heres my first Contender from 2007

Here's my 7" gullet Contender from 2012

Yes!  I love my Jordon Peterson Contender.  I have a Cactus CJ as well but my Shiloh seems to have more flare and a narrower seat.

I bought my Contender new from Stacy in the fall of 2009 and he had just changed the tree to have more flare.

Nueva on top, meleta in middle, pozzi on bottom. pozzi doesn't have a ton of flare. When put next to a saddle with zero flare it looks more impressive lol.

You can have Stacey make you a saddle on any tree. I had a 2007 JM that didn't fit either of my horses, but my friend's older JM fit both of them, so I had him make me a new saddle on the older tree.

You can get Jeff Smith barrel saddles with a cutter tree. My friend loves her Roohide cutting saddle so she purchased a Jeff Smith barrel saddle and loves it.
