Location: Oklahoma | I know it will vary by company, but what does it generally cover?
Medications? I.E. EPM, Allergy desenentizing, etc
Treatments? I.E. Shockwave, Injections, etc.
Diagnostics? I.E. Lameness Locators, X Rays, Ultrasounds, etc.
Or is it mostly for surgery?

Location: South Georgia | It covers anything that is not routine, expected, routine, procedures--that is what major medical is in layman's terms. The coverage varies depending on company. I had mine pay for GastroGard, endoscopic scoping, a traveling emergency vet hospital visit, stitches for a leg cut, etc.

| Agreed that it varies from company to company. Mine covered the Xrays for my horse and his first set of injections to make him not Ouchy but it would not cover any more injections after that because they classified them as "Elective". But they covered for when he was super sick and had to be admitted to the hospital for a week I only had to pay the deductible out of pocket which was like $350.00. This was MUCh better than the $5000 bill I would have had after IV antibiotics and board and such. |

I havent had a horse in a little while, but it was Dobbs Equine Insurance, and I do not recall the rate. I did, however, research like crazy finding the best rate, so at the time it was quite competitive. They are show people. Courtney Clagg was my agent. http://www.dobbsequineins.com/

Any vet, I believe. I say that because they never dictated who I could use. My vet just sent them in the invoices. My vet was very aware of how to handle insurance billing, etc. If you use a back-woods vet, maybe you'd have a different experience. I never had to do a thing, my vet handled all of the billing. |

Now your horse has to be insured for over $20k for mm. I am sure I am part of the reason, lol. I had a prospect covered for less that paid out more in claims than insured value. But another option is a surgical policy instead of MM. It is $150. Deductable is $250 and they pay up to $7500 per procedure with a cap of 2 per year. Keep in mind, colic surgury is typically covered with your mortality up to $3500+ |
