Location: N Texas | My law experience pretty much consists of watching Judge Mathis and The People's Court, and what I've learned is that even though it's your private page, you CANNOT post outright lies about someone. You can post opinions, but you can't state something as fact. For instance, you can say "Joe is a big, fat jerk!" but you can't say "Joe stole $1000 from my piggy bank!" if it's not true.
The best thing to do is just NOT post about other people and what they're doing.

tried that with my daughters father spreading horrible lies about me, and my ex best friend who buddied up with him doing the same.......and the attorney said it wouldn't hold up in court. |

| We had an issue with the crazy woman I posted about the other day and getting restraining orders and the the judge flat told us that anything stated on someone's personal fb is pretty much opinion and they can say whatever they want. Possibly if they were say stuff you could prove erroneous with black and white proof and prove how it affected future income or something, then maybe idk |

Interesting. If you can prove things that were said were completely false, I don't know why it wouldn't hold up. But like I said, I'm not a lawyer.

Location: EDGE OF INSANITY | From my experience, you're screwed. My husbands ex always writes crap on FB about how he doesn't pay his child support (not true, and believe me, she'd have him locked up in a heart beat if it were). I've been called a whore, white trash, nasty, etc. He gets called a loser, terrible dad, just a sperm donor, etc. Lawyer said there's nothing we can do about it unless it affects us money/job wise (which it doesn't bc everyone knows she's crazy). It used to really get to me, but now i just ignore it (but i actually had to block her on FB bc she kept sending me crazy messages) Good luck |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | We have had multiple problems with my SO's ex on facebook as well. I made a BOOK out of a three ring binder of everything she said about me, personally attacking me, phone calls, voicemail recordings, text messages everything. Took her to court for harrassment and the judge slapped her on the wrist said don't do it again and refused my plea for a restraining order. (She frequently show sup at my work and yells at me, cuts me down, calls me names...)
Even all my evidence didn't hold up in court... If it's on facebook, you may as well just forget about it.
Found a quote to go along with that: "If we worry about our self image with ONE person, we ruin our character with everyone." Hold's true. She brings out the worst in people.... Turn the other cheek if you can... Sorry Hugs for you |

| All you need to know is someone can take legal action at anytime. Whether or not it is warranted or a valid complaint case. It will cost you thousands of dollars to defend youself. Therefore, I just dont speak poorly of others on fb or any website. I dont want to have to deal with the chaos.
There are two different kinda of defamation. Slander and Libel.Slander is verbal, libel is written. Libel is easier to prove because there is proof. |

Location: Friendswood, Texas | I thought you could report someone to Facebook for "inappropriate" behavior. It may sound lame but it's something... I feel for ya. Been there, had it done to me but it was before Facebook was so prevalent, Thank God.

I've never checked, but you can look at the FB TOS and see what it says.

Because the woman that filed false accusations against me and I am patiently waiting for the prosecutor to file perjury charges against her and I hope someone posts it on the Internet to expose her as a liar to the world. |

I have a friend whose business/livelihood were ruined by a person on Facebook. Lawyers said nothing could be done. Person tried to sue for loss of income. Never got anything. People who had never even met my friend were posting crap and when she emailed these people, they said that they had heard the business person was unreliable and was just passing the word along. So I guess you can say just about anything you want. If you read something about someone that you question, carefully consider the source. Personally, I think what goes around, comes around and eventually everyone will get the payback they deserve. Don't waste your time trying to reciprocate. Think how many people could benefit from your positive energy. |

Location: Texas | Thank you everyone for the advice! Just to clarify it was not me posting anything about anyone... I cannot discuss anything on here because this still counts as social media, it truly amazes me how a twitter/facebook post can effect someone so much. |
