Location: Big Blue Skies | Thanks for your inquiry. No, we do not handle any ionophores (i.e. Rumensin) in our plant.
Since this product can be detrimental to horses and we make quite a bit of horse feed, we made the decision many years ago to not handle these type of products.

Location: Texas | I received that same email. However, they do handle several medicated cattle feeds, which I assume is made with Bovatec. I've asked for clarification about that, and haven't received a reply yet. |

Location: Texas | Here is their reply: The Medicated feeds for cattle are medicated w/ Chlortetracyline, not an ionophore. We do not handle any products, such as Rumensin or Urea that can be detrimental to equine. |

| Asking this question here because I am afraid it would get lost in the big thread.
I have read many times and many places for years on the internet, that most people dont think much of Purina horse feeds. Are you know saying now they may be a safer feed for horses? I am in texas and would be feeding Equine Seniir.

I for one, like Purina feed a lot. There are those that do not and that is okay. Some will post their feelings (very strong) about ingredients, etc on Purina products but I for one have used it for years and have always had good success with it. I realize not all feeds work for all horses and to each there own. Here is my Purina story - have a mare that is a very hard keeper that I bred and she did not take. All winter long I had her on grass hay and Purina Strategy only. About late March I noticed her being larger than usual and took her in to my vet who palpated her. You got it - the ultra sound was wrong. At that point I added all the extras but I am convinced the Stategy helped this mare and foal in the development stages. One may not have anything to do with the other but I was blessed with a healthy foal who is now 7 and I shudder to think what may have happened had my mare not been getting some of the nutrition she and the foal needed while she was pregnant and I did not know. I have both horses on Purina Equine Senior and they both look great on it. That and grass hay only. |
