Someone has approched us wanting to buy a embryo from one of our mares. I have NO clue what people sell embryo's for. Obviously I know it depends on the mare and Firewater Fiesta or Mulberry Canyon Moon would be alot more then most. But how much are those embryo's and how much are others?

I would think about - if you had a foal out of your mare - what would you sell that foal for - now subract out the cost of feeding the mare for a year and doing all the work til weaning for the baby...
I have checked into embryo's from mares i liked - most were priced 15-30k plus the cost of actually doing it and the recip of about 5k more.. hence.. haven't done it yet lol..

Edited to clarify my post.
We've done it in the past with some of our best DTF and Tres Seis daughters, but are not doing it anymore.

We were getting $1500-2000 for JUST the embryo from the mare.
The stud fee, stallion expenses, ET expenses (flushes, ultrasounds, ect), drugs, and recip mare are expenses you have to add on top of that.

For a nice own daughter 2000-3500. Depends on if she is nice enough that people really want to breed to her.

Amy, where do you go? I am discussing this with someone who has a nice mare..and then my stallion. Want to do a bit of trading. Im not wanting to have mares, but husband wants to have just a few so we have something to get our stallion known.

No that is just the price of the embryo from the mare.  Not any of the work.  The work and all of the breeding fees, stallion fees, ect, are in addition to the price of the embryo from the mare.
You can expect to pay $3000-5000+ on top of the price of the embryo, for ET work, and that does not include the stallion fees & expenses.

Good luck... I don't know what caliber of mare your talking about but I tried to sell embryos with this ad...Shes out of Mr Honor Bound

I am considering selling embryos out of Bound To Be Dirty. 1D Super Show and 19/20 second pole horse. Accomplishments in past 3 years include: All American Youth go round wins and top 5 places, 2 time NBHA 1d state champion , NBHA open and youth reserve national 1d champ, AQHA National Champion, top 10 1d NBHA youth world rounds and finals, battle in the saddle 1d average winner, etc. Message me with serious inquiries or questions.. Has the speed and turns, she would cross well with anything and greatly contribute to any breeding program.

and was asking 2500$ with buyer handling the other costs and only had about 5 inquiries... It is harder to sell them than I'd expect as she is a well known horse

I just wanted to add there is a new Facebook group called Race/Barrel Race Embryos FOR SALE that has developed. Anyone who is a member of the group would be more likely to be looking to buy. I imagine most people don't buy embryos because the recip and vet costs are so high, especially when coupled with the mare fee and stud fee too. People who can afford the usually 7500 dollars involved with vet and recip alone can also afford quite a bit for a mare so they tend to go with the really high end mares (like Mulberry Canyon Moon or Go Royal Scarlett). There is not as much of a 'middle market' for embryos. Hopefully the facebook group can help though.

If you don't mind me asking...what mares you were looking at. I suppose these were the highest end mares there are....proven rodeo mares as well as proven PRODUCERS. I thought the top mares like Fiesta and Mulberry were around 15-20 (when Fiesta was here). I didn't know of one going for as high as 30. (Just trying to gain more knowledge about this industry).
