Location: Okla | I have a mare that struggles with under belly summer sores, have tried everything on the market including the allergy shots and tons of medicated creams ect for it. It gets to be a bloody raw mess, and can imagine how she feels, I really need help and information please ! |

Location: Texas | If its truly from habronema, you may have to deworm with ivermectin more frequently for her and the rest of your horses. Also, my vet mixes ivermectin, SSD cream, and Dex together and paints that on the summer sores. But he scrapes out all the sulfur granules first. |

Location: Okla | Vet has worked her and he said it was bug/fly/insect bites she is very thin skinned. |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | If it is insect related...I prefer to apply a layer of that sticky SWAT ointment as it soothes some and repels the nasty biting little buggers. I know it comes in a clear version...but I'll be darned if it doesn't seem as though the pink stuff works better.
Once the sores appear...a cream with a steroid helps reduce inflammation/itching. |

| Mine had belly sores so bad that she abscessed. The vet told me to spray with fly spray and use Durvet cream to keep it soft. I glob that Durvet cream on there. |

Location: Okla | Thank you, will for sure try that...know vetrocyn, bag balm, just about any kind of cream sold , I have tried- but never thought of putting the swat on her belly --my barn looks like a place that sells horse supplies ! |

Location: NC | If shes hyper bug sensitive try mtg on it or tea tree oil shampoo. My friend has a gelding that from spring to fall rubs everything.. he rubs out his tail, rubs out his mane and his stomach is a mess. She also took him off all processed grains and gives him colostrum to help him. |

Location: Central Florida | My mare also suffers from this. I have tried every cream there is and the only thing that seems to be clearing it up is keeping her on a low dose of Dex and applying Nustock every couple days. |

Location: Back in MT BABY!!! | During the summer we feed garlic to our horses. The smell goes through their skin and helps keeps away the bugs. Also are you opposed to chickens? My sister has them and just lets them run free on her place....she has next to no bugs during the summer because of it.

Common Sense and then some
Location: So. California | A friend's mare was like this... It was from the gnats (no see um bugs) that lived near the lake. She did de-worm monthly, tried every cream imaginable... nothing helped in the spring and summer. Finally, she moved her horse to a different area without standing water (miles away) and no more problems.

Location: LaBelle, Florida | The garlic helps...I have to get some to start my mare back on prior to summer season down here.
I did it last year along with keeping her stalled with a fan and an auto bug mister in her stall.
Helped a lot.

Location: California | My old Appy used to be a mess in the summer due to flies. I was talking to a Vetricyn dealer and he told me to spray it on her and put nothing else on her. Fly spray affects the way the vetricyn works. Anyways, within about 2 days, the sores were healed up and scabbed over. I just kept the Vetricyn on her until she was completely healed then used Pyrhana fly spray on her. It really did work well, I was very pleased with the results (and so was she!). Last year I stayed on top of it and as soon as I noticed a sore, I put vetricyn on that spot, and she barely had any reactions. It was a huge difference from the year before. |

Location: Okla |  Ok, talked to my vet today, he said he just attended a equine conference and there was something new this year he could and will order that will stop these nasty awful sores horses have to deal with every summer. But he couldn't think of the name of it at the moment(he was giving yearly shots to my dogs), but as soon as I find out what it is, I will come back on here and let everybody know also... |
