Location: California | I am driving from Ohio to California this weekend. I was planning on going down to I-40 and across as I have driven that route a million times. However, I-80 is an option as well. I have not driven 80 but mileage and time wise they are almost identical. There is supposed to be snow all through 40 Saturday, and some on part of 80 but not as much. I have a small sports car. Granted I have been living in Ohio just fine with it and all the snow but anyone recommend one route versus the other?

That is what I am thinking at this point. I can make the trip in two days instead of three that way a little easier too. |

Location: Roping pen | Across NE, we are to get snow on Saturday so 80 might be a little interesting. It is real busy and rough most all the way thru NE.
Good luck! |

Location: That part of Texas | On my part of I-40, it's supposed to snow on Friday (1-3 inches) and then have ice/snow Saturday morning. If it gets bad enough, the road may actually be closed between the Texas line and Tucumcari at some point. You couldn't pay me enough money to be driving on I-40 on either Friday or Saturday. There will just be too many wrecks as it always happens when we get this type of weather. |

I will be through Nebraska by Friday night. So could possibly miss that.
I have seen I-40 in this kind of weather and it is definitely a disaster. I know they shut part of it down yesterday. At least people up north tend to be more used to driving in bad weather. |

Location: Northern CA | I-80 across Nevada is BORING! But on the bright side, it is easy driving and easily 80mph through almost the entire state. |

Oh I know! I have driven through Nevada and Utah quite a bit. Do like the fast speed limits though! I will be taking 80 as of now. |

| Just a word of caution if you're taking I-80 - if it has snowed or is snowing when you get to Cheyenne, WY, be VERY careful between Cheyenne and Laramie. It gets absolutely horrible in bad weather! |

If there has been snow, it can be a little sketchy around Evanston as well. I think they do a pretty good job of keeping it clean, but be prepared for wind most of the way. I don't think I have drove across NE or WY without a head wind heading west. |

Be careful and please let us know if you made it (if you can). I-40 in Texas to NM will be icy and snowed by the morning. We are supposed to get another round tonight, during the day on Friday and possibly melt some off on Sunday. Monday is supposed to bring some more snow but not as much (so they say now).
