Location: That part of Texas | My dogs love Beneful but I have quit buying it for them after reading over the past couple of years about problems people have had with it. It's also one brand of dog food that seems to land on a recall list on a more frequent basis than some of the other similarly priced brands/types. I hope Purina gets this all figured out. |

I agree with you. We don't feed this brand - but I am leaning toward just making our own. |

| If you decide to make your own dog food I'd try to add vitamins or be sure to google what a dog actually requires to stay healthy. I know in the past and wild dogs do just fine eating raw and rotting carcuses (sp). So maybe when things get nasty they gain extra stuff for the dog to stay healthy . |

All of this started when the big companies started buying out the smaller dog food companies. What use to be a great dog food many times have become on the recent recall lists.
You need to educate yourself and start reading the labels. The best dog magazine that posts the best dog foods every year is the the Whole Dog Journal. Not as good but somewhat reliable is http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/.
If your dog food is made by Proctor Gamble, Colgate Palmolive, Mars or Nestles, think twice. |

Location: Kansas | Switched just a couple of months ago from Beneful to Purina One. Didn't know about the dangers of Beneful but my dogs just liked the Purina One much better. They certainly look and feel good.
Thanks for the post. I'll know better than to switch back for any reason. |

Location: Red Raiderland | This is scary stuff! I have fed my dogs all raw diets for the last dozen years or so and I would never feed them any kind of dog food ever again. Dogs are carnivores and they need to eat raw meat, bones and organs. It is not necessary to add veggies or vitamins, they are meat eaters. I just make sure that any meat I feed is free of antibiotics/hormones and is not injected with brine or salt or other junk. We have fed our dogs any type of meat we can hunt. Hogs, dove, rabbits, squirrels, etc. I have a 10 year old Dachshund that will literally eat anything so she is definitely an easy keeper. My dogs look and act fantastic! |

This is what I was going to say NTO...KMC Sunshine has been making her own for a while. She has my respect for doing this as she has more than one or two. I keep telling myself this is what I need to do. |

Completely agree with you. We see more dogs sick with horrible blood value because someone decided to make there own dog foot with burger and rice and they don't realize the dog needs vit/min to stay healthy. Carrots are also good to add in ..gasp |

Location: Kansas | Beneful is made by Nestle Purina which is a separate company from Land O' Lakes/Purina that makes the horse/livestock feed. I feed the Land O' Lakes/ Purina dog food, Infinia. A couple of them are grain free diets and I love it and so does my dog. Check out Infinia or Exclusive, I don't think you'll be disappointed. |
