So my horse is ready to move up in gullet size, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for! I have a Crown C which I like but with my horse being built sort of downhill I get thrown forward in the turns. I'm thinking I need an FX3 or Racer. The problem is I've never sat in either of those types! I'm worried I'll get one and not like it.

I found a used Racer in the size I need.... now I don't know if I should go for it or pay more money for a new FX3 that's not the color/looks that I want. I'm pretty confident my horse will eventually grow out of the 10" gullet so I probably won't have whatever saddle I buy for longer than a year or so. What should I do?

I was convinced I wanted the FX3, but now tell me about the Martin Racer! How are the racer and FX3 different/similar?

I have never sat in an FX3 so I can't compare the two. But I do love my Racer. They have a pretty deep seat and really let you sit down on your pockets. It's a very secure saddle that I feel holds me down in there.

I wish I had this saddle when I had my old free runner horse who tended to be front endy. I think I would have rode him WAY better. I currently ride it on a fairly ratey horse, though, and I still like it.

I recently got the martin racer, and LOVE it! Really sits you balanced (fx3s tended to throw me a bit forward) and it fits my downhill mare great! Just put a small shim up front and it levels out and rides great. Love how it sits you in the turns on a hard turning/free running style horse. I'm very pleased with it and am now before long going to be looking for another one with a wider gullet.

ETA: Love how it fits my horse as well, since my one filly is a bit downhill, I was worried, but it has fit her great, and like I said, just needed an ever so small shim up front and it fits perfect and very balanced.

I got a Cervi and a Martin racer and LOVE both!!! Cervi has a deeper seat and the racer, to me, feels more like I can move in my saddle.....The FX3 are for people that ride really in the hind pockets.

Agree completely. I have never been able to ride well in the FX3, but the Cervi and the Racer I both love.

Its so hard to fit a downhill horse. Every saddle I have tried always ends up hitting behind the scapula. I recently bought a Crown C and found the same issue. So I bought a Best Ever Cadillac pad with the built up front. Its the only thing that levels out my horse and its working great and I'm not thrown forward.

I've had that problem too so I've thought about getting a csi and shimming. I'll look into the best ever pad. Thanks!

I had to get rid of my racer, it thru me forward too bad, I was always afraid I was going over his head at the first barrel. Sold it and got a pozzi and no more problems, so I know it was the saddle
