| I have a canon but I am sure that Nikon makes the same lens. I am at school and the lens is a home but I think it is a 270 zoom. I used to take barrel racing and rodeo pictures. I also took graduation pictures and this lens worked best for me. It was not cheap, was about $1200. |

You need a 70/200 with a 2.8 FA., for any action shots, barrels, rodeos, ect. I use the 70-200 for portaits and low light conditions as well. Nut be sure you play with the settings on your camera to learn what you really need. Dont just stay in auto or you may miss/blur alot of shots. Adjust your shutter speed accordingly.
If you are doing slower shots, you can get away with alot less lens. Just remember the lower the f stop, the better your lens will be and the better quality shots you will take.

Location: Kids have taken over the house...check the barn! | Thanks! I have been looking at the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 since it is cheaper than the nikon. I also am contenplating a 70-50mm 2.8 also for shorter range. |

Location: ND | My main lens is a 18-105, I use it for everything. I also have a 100-300 but it's a cheapor Nikkor brand one & I HATE it. Definately spend the money to buy a quality lens vs getting one that's a little cheaper. One of these days I will decide to buy a really nice 200mm! |

There are a wealth of photography tutorials now on the internet. Do some research and learn about shutter priority and speeds as well as aperature. You can greatly improve your photos. |

| My daughter shoots with a sony camera that she loves and uses a 70-300 for a lot of things but is saving up to get the 70-200 f2.8 so she can shoot indoors a little better. She also has a 85 fixed focal that is an f2.8 she uses if she can get close. You can rent lenses on www.borrowlenses.com and try some out before buying that is what we have done . I have had good luck with them and no problems. I will load few she has taken recently. The bottom picture is a picture of two canvas that she donated to an auction they looked better in person.

| Your lens is the most important part of the camera. If you invest in a less expensive lens you just can't the quality that you want from your camera. I took40,000 pictures with one camera and close to 20,000 with my second camera. I sold a tamron lens or something similar to a BB on here because it just would not do what I wanted. Just save your money and buy the Nikon that goes with your camera. Also if buying aTamron lens or something like it, make sure that it has the same mount as your camera, otherwise it will not fit. |
