| I had one of my colts done and the scan showed more heat on the coffin bone area, there is no prior injury to this area (that i know of) any suggestions as to what can cause this? He will be re-scanned next month as well.

| A Thermal Imaging camera is a surface thermometer, it can't read anything deeper than the surface of an area. Was this reading done outside? Often the hooves read hotter because they are reflecting more sunlight. The only place a camera can get accurate readings is in a draft free and sunlight free area, and the horse has to be tied for a half hour to make sure he didn't just wake up from a nap on the ground, which could make the camera "see" that the side that was in contact with the ground was colder than the other side. If you are concerned about coffin bones, I'd suggest X-Rays. Good Luck! |

| Thank you.
It was done in an enclosed heated barn, they were brought in 2 hours prior to the appt to adjust to the heat. The scan showed higher temp on the coffin bone. |

Wow I'm impressed they got the protocol right! I would be very concerned if my horses coffin bones were so inflamed that heat would radiate to the surface like that. I'd go to a vet and get X-Rays and see what is really going on, I am thinking steroid injections would be first on the list to calm the inflammatory process- which is destroying new bone, ligament/tendons and cartilage as we speak. I'd be afraid of founder- maybe stand him in a bucket of water in the meantime? |

| When I have time i will post the images. I found it weird that there was more heat in that area only.
As for everything else, hes already been x-rayed clean and no prior injury that i am aware of.
