Here lately my horse and I haven't been performing like we had been. I think it might be from the lack of trust we have from each other. What are some ideas that could help me and my horse start trusting each other again? Thanks!

Really start loving on him and don't hit him or slap him or what not. talk to him in a sweet way too(horses pick up off of ques in your voice)
give him treats and work with him one on one. show him that you are here to help him and make sure nothing is gonna hurt him. just bond with him as much as you can:) hope this helps

Spend more time with him. I've learned if you get a horse out in a pasture or woods, by himself, he will start thinking of you as his partner. Once he has a bond with you, you can add more variables - other people, horses, the arena.. etc.

I too like to spend a lot of time just brushing, petting, and doing basic groundwork with my horses. I've yet to own one that doesn't nicker and get excited when they see me coming. I've only had Cash for going on 7 months and we completely trust each other and have a great bond. He's sweet and gentle with everyone but I'm HIS person.

I bought a gelding last year who came directly from a feedlot....he was beaten by the cowboy who rode him....which in turn caused him to be very scared/leery of people in general. I basically let him sit for a month in the pasture....sent him to a "friend" to ride him...which he never ended up rode but maybe 4 times the several months that he was there. He was diagnosed with EPM....so once again huge change in attitude.....
Brought him home first week of february, went out to feed 2 times a day....first few weeks he wouldn't let me touch him....then he began to let me rub and love on him while he was eating. I would also go out there and sit on the other side of the fence just to talk to him....gave him cookies...just generally showed alot of affection for him.
Now.....complete 180 in attittude change. I go out everyday, can clip the lead on his halter and lead him around....he will ground tie to be saddled....he loves going down the road with me, and I rub and love on him while in the saddle to reassure him that everything will be okay.
Since I've showed him "love" this horse has completely changed from October 2014, where he was so freighted of people he would turn and run if you stepped foot in the pasture.
