I have noticed my extremely mellow gelding (that is him pictured) has become very difficult to shoe. It only seems to be the fronts and mainly when his feet are held in the position below. There is no lameness at all but something is hurting him. i wondered if anyone else has run across this issue and if it is knees? Shoulders? Where do i start? i can not find anything obvious. He is fine to just pick his feet and he LOVES to stretch like a cat.

I had a mare that was like that on fronts....but it was because the farrier was pulling the leg further out to shoe, instead of setting it up under her.

whohasaplan - 2015-03-11 8:53 AM When I rode him I felt him off in the front. Remember our talk about it? I think it is him telling you he is in pain. I would have him checked.
He has been spot on lately when i ride (not feeling that same stiffness anymore) but he reared and lifted me off the ground when he was getting his right front done. Obviously out of character for him! I am getting the vet out just trying to locate where it might be.

Definitely would say pain issue happening. My guy did the same thing, he would literally jerk whoever off the ground and became unmanageable. I got this idea to call Kathy George to see if there was an issue and low and behold there was. She did a great job of nailing it, he had shoulder pain and since having it fixed. He's a completely different horse!

What did they find? Was he "out"? just curious. I am only seeing issues when he is asked to "twist" the joints.

I had the same problem with my farrier and gelding. My farrier would pull his feet to far to the side and it made his joints tender. Horses legs can only be pulled to the side so far before it starts to hurt...
I made him start putting it under my horse more. My farrier wasn't the most comfortable but my horse was!!
