What is the normal commission rate for a trainer helping sell a horse? Horse would be kept there and ridden for potential buyers. Also would be fed by the trainer. Friend of ours is wanting to send her horse to a trainer (if she can find one) who has a nice barn and indoor to be sold as weather isn't on her side for showing to potential buyers. No training done, other than ridden for potential buyers. She wants to know what is "normal" to be charged, so she at least has an idea when she starts looking. I realize all barns and trainers are different, but just some guidance for her would help!! Thanks!

If I was sending a horse to a trainer to have them broker a deal I would expect to pay their normal training rate plus 10% of the sale price. They'll charge you for the days that the horse is ridden and board for the days it's not ridden. For a horse to show well to a potential buyer it's going to need to be ridden to stay sharp.
