Location: Somewhere around here | ...using spur or whips? My husbands horse is a good horse but very sensitive. We also think that he was abused with slip reins two years ago when we had a man riding him for feedlot work. He can be a fast horse but it takes quite some urging and kissing to get him to lengthen out. I can ride him with bumper spurs but that's about it. Any tips on adding speed and/or lengthening his stride without using whips or spurs? |

| Breeze him and make a SHHHHHHH sound, then every time you ask for all out speed use the SHHHHHHHHH and it should start to click with him. |

Location: The Great Northwest | I have a horse that when breezing you feel he is really running. Well, breeze him with another horse that runs fast. Breeze until you feel okay he is running like normal then have the other horse come along side and go by. I was totally surprised when the other horse passed my horse had another gear we didn't know about! He really opened up and worked to catch the other horse. Now, not all horses are that aggresive but worth a try. Also, you need to ask for the speed like when you are leaving a barrel. Please don't run the air out of them. They won't want to run if you do that and you could hemorage the lungs. |

Most likely not. My husband rarely has time to ride with me and his horse is oddly really competitive and aggressive for being so sensitive. If I could breeze with another horse I could somehow see him running off with me haha!
The SHHHH and kissing noise was what we were working on last summer and he was slowly understanding it.

I feel like I can tell a difference between running from the third barrel to the gate from the first video and second but I don't know if anyone else can. |

| In my opinion spurs and whips are not for forward motion. This is where good, solid foundation comes in. Horses should understand speed up and slow down with your seat and energy in your body. Start from scratch and work on transitions. This should also build confidence in him a little at a time. I will say though...I've seen some horses that know how to stretch out and run but refuse to cut loose on the barrels...it's not because of a lack of confidence or out of fear..its because they are to darn smart for their own good. They understand they will be slowing down to turn soon lol |

I agree with Bear. It looks to me like what he is lacking is confidence, not speed. Once a horse becomes confident in himself he will start looking for the speed on his own. Go back to the basics, maybe even ground work. More slow work until you can walk and trot the barrels on him with your eyes closed (figuratively speaking). |

| Maybe cluck and use a big soft rope as a over under dont hit hard but smack it back and forth like when walking to transition to a trot so all you have to,do is pick up the rope and then transition to the lope the same way until you get the horse sensitive to the big soft cotton rope. And the start loping then start swinging rope. The horse will figure it out soon. |

Location: MD | One of mine really starts motoring with a shoulder clap and encouragement. hissing or kissing, whichever comes out of my mouth first. I can't slap his shoulder too hard or he starts shutting down, breezing doesn't work to well for him because he isn't competitive with other horses and doesn't like to be alone outside of the arena |
