Location: texas | So about 2 or 3 years ago I was begging my parents to get me a trailer so we could go were ever we wanted without having to pay money to be hauled somewhere. and of course they said no we don't need a trailer. I let it go until my mom started agreeing with me and thought we needed a trailer as well. one day I was being picked up from the barn and they had this tinyyy little trailer and of course I was excited but the thing was TINYYY! and the steel wall had a huge crack in it on two places. my parents told me the inside of the trailer caught on fire while they were looking at the trailer....AND YET THEY STILL BOUGHT THE DARN THING...it is a single axle 2 horse, straight load, no tack room no padding and it had NO lights on it. my parents not being horses people payed 2000 for the piece of crap. so my horse doesn't fit in it....we have to squeeze him in their and he is terrified to get in it bc of how tiny it is. I feel soo bad and now im trying to convince my parents to get another trailer and sell the other one. My dad fixed it up really well!! he put a lot of lights on it he reinforced the wall in like 4 spots and hand made a wooden saddle rack(that hardly fits in the little cubby) I found like 50 trailers that are CHEAPER than the one they bought and WAYYYYYY better but they said no bc the trailer we have now is fine...but they don't know that its not fine bc my horse cant fit in there. with him in the trailer and the door shut and locked the door bulges out a lot bc he cant scoot up anymore. and I even told them these trailers are cheaper and we could just resell our trailer for $2000 since it was fixed up.now its a decent trailer but my horse is just too big. they said no no no no. any ideas to persuade them to get a new trailer??? sorry for the long story lol |

| Take the divider out and it will give him more room. I hauled mine around in our hog trailer with no top until I was able to buy my own. I would have loved to have a HORSE trailer. |

And in another post you said that your parents didnt have the money to buy you another horse, so be thanking your parents for what you have now, if they dont have the money then find a job and start saving up for what you want. |

I do! I literally thank them every day!!:) but I found trailers that are cheaper than the one we have now so we would actually be MAKING money if we sold ours and bought a different one. |

LOL, Well I hope that you can get a different trailer that your horse can ride in later on. You seem like a good kid so maybe offer to get a job and pay for half and the parents pay the other half. Are stay put for awhile no barrel races and sell your trailer and you will work to make up the difference in the price of a newer trailer if more money is needed. |

Location: Arkansas | I think her point is for her horse's comfort and safety, not what the trailer looks like. We were uneducated when we purchased our first trailer, and so it wasn't long before we sold that one and got our current one. (Size of our horses vs size of the trailer was one of our problems also. We have 2 big boys that are 16.3 and prob 1300 lbs each, so size matters!!) |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I knew a little girl that was horse crazy and she had a horse, parents could not buy a trailer to haul her to our small rodeo that we had every weekend, but she begged and begged her daddy to buy one so she could go run barrels, I remember when I first met her they drove up in a old truck with a horse on a flat bed trailer that her daddy built for her so she could come and run barrels. The trailer had wooden rails on it, but good lord that horse could have come off any time, but every saturday they come to the rodeo and she was proud as punch to be there with us, they used this trailer for maybe a year are two then daddy saved up enought money to buy a real trailer not a fancy trailer but a safe trailer.. Every once in a while I would go pick up her horse and the little girl so that she could eat out with us after the rodeo and not worry about her horse sitting on the little flat bed trailer. Awww the good old days, this little girl is all grown up now, boy I miss her and miss the days when we were all simple. |

Save every penny you have for an upgrade . How did it catch fire? I was soooo lucky my mom and dad got me a trailer. It was a XL 2 horse straight load with yes the cubby tack room.. Granted it was bigger than your trailer but I feel your pain. With a little strategic training horses learn to like them /tolerate them fine |

| Most two horse trailers are a fairly standard length. Those single axle two horse trailers became really popular with the rodeo crowd for awhile. Even though they look really short they are a standard length. I have a two horse trailer that really looks short against my goosed neck. Unless this horse is a thoroughbred he probably fits in there fine. Sounds to me like he is leaning on the back door. Again the divider can be taken out if you have to use a cutting torch.
There is a guy around here that has fixed up, OLD little one horse trailer. He comes and parks right in the middle of all the big living quarters trailers. I told him he had the right idea. He laughed and said "Hey, I can go through the drive through." There are a lot of times that I would have like to drive through too instead of walking through!!! |

Location: oklahoma | Be grateful. We parents do the best that we can and honestly, when my children don't accept my reason for something, it hurts. Until you're out in the world for some time, you don't understand our other obligations. If the floor and tires are good, go with it. There's no guarantee that they'll get enough out of it to 'save' money on a different one so trust them as adults to make adult decisions. Enjoy what you have and the rest will come in due time. |

I am certainly not going to applaud this young lady for complaining. I am going to tell her that she should thank her lucky stars that she HAS parents who seem to be able to help her as much as they can. From the description that you have given, your parents probably realize that they would never get their money back out of it, if they sold it. Additionally, If your father could patch the sides, I am reasonably sure he could (or find someone) to take the divider out. Be grateful to have what you have........... |

Where is the applause? All I see is a bunch of people offering advice on how to help out and reminding her to be grateful-and the OP answering politely. I think that it's okay that this didn't turn into a big holier than thou pile up. OP might actually be able to get some more ideas about how to help herself and her parents. |

As a kid my grandpa would haul me at times or I rode to the shows. Some of them took me a good hour at a fast trot to get there. I had a few friends that had great parents that would let me tag along as well. I am impressed with how the OP is politely replying to all us older folks. She should be proud of how well her parents are raising her. Hopefully some minor things can be fixed up, but I think it is great your parents are giving you the opportunity to have a horse etc. |

I have ridden to more than a few. As previously stated, I hauled mine in our hog trailer for about a third of my life when I didn't have to ride to get there.
All of you have noticed this is the same person who has the dangerous horse when pinned (penned) up. I really think she needs some one to communicate with.

Really the floor caught on fire, I would be having someone check the boards to see if its safe to put your horse in, this may be why he wont load, he knows its not safe if the boards were burned, so please check the Floor. |

Should that horse slip out in the rear end he will flip sticking his head through the roof and in the scramble to get loose punch his legs through the side flipping the trailer . Trust me on this and keep searching for a larger trailer and save yourself a lot of heart be persistent. My mare went down in small 2 horse straight load. I had her on a long bungee tie if it had been a solid rope she would have broke her neck. A horse must fit to travel safely. Keep looking and saving. |

I'm not that many years removed from 15 and I tell you what - if my parents found out I was on an online forum acting ungrateful for what they were giving me, they would have taken it all away. I would also do the same to the children I have now.
I haul in a two horse trailer, I have a 16.3, 1300 lb gelding that fits just fine with the divider open so that he can scooch his big butt to the side. Like others have said: if your divider doesn't swing or come out - take it to any welder and they can get it out easily and for probably pretty cheap.
Good luck!

Location: Texas | Honestly I'm having a really hard time believing that your horse doesn't fit in a standard two horse trailer. I have a friend from back in Texas that puts her 17.2hh TB gelding in a two horse trailer.. he fits. Maybe it isn't something you want, but appreciate what you have. It isn't easy to support a family, pay bills, and be able to afford the luxury of horses and the expenses that come with them. You are truly fortunate that you have a horse, and a trailer, and a way to haul to barrel races. If you're absolutely dead set that you need another trailer, get a job or find a way to make some money so you can afford one that you want. |

Location: Kansas | Honestly....you should be very grateful. I worked my butt off through high school, bought/paid for everything for my horses including board/feed/farrier/vet and even paid for my own horse. My parents were too poor to buy me anything, I didn't get my first trailer until I was 18 years old...and I paid for it. It was a junky old gooseneck stock trailer but it got me where I needed to go. I hope you one day learn to appreciate what your parents are doing for you, lord knows I would have at your age. |

| In my trailer, the divider didn't come out, but the back part came undone & the front was hinged, and I was able to tie it the side of the trailer. Not sure how yours is made, but it worked on mine.

| People who are saying this child should suck it up, would you haul your horse in it from her description?
I sure wouldn't
The trailer caught on fire, there is a hole in the floor boards, this is a big risk as those floor boards could give out and the horse could be dragged to death, it does happen.
Please ask to take the trailer to a trailer repair place and have a new floor installed.
Also she says the back door is bulging, after a fire the integrity of the metal and welds has been damaged, and with excess stress on the door by the horse leaning could pop the welds and the back door could come flying off and the horse could step out while the trailer is moving.
I would also get a qualified professional to look over the entire trailer, welds, and support beams.
To the op if your dad is a jack of all trades, maybe explain your concerns with the rationale, and suggest you both fix it together. This could be a bonding experience for you. During this time you can cut out the middle piece so the horse has more room.
Good luck |

She said that it caught on fire because of grinder sparks - it wasn't a raging inferno.
And no, I wouldn't haul my horse in an unsafe trailer. I also wouldn't be on the internet complaining that my parents wouldn't buy me a new one. I would either A: save up and buy a new one B: try to get rides with friends or C: NOT haul anywhere. Horses and ALL their accessories are a LUXURY. You can survive with a horse without a trailer, I have done it in the past. I got rides with friends when I could and when I couldn't, I just didn't go. Did I get online and throw my sucker in the dirt and complain about how SOMEBODY ELSE wouldn't buy me one? Absolutely not. |

To the OP, I would go to your parents and ask them if they would be willing to upgrade if you were to pitch in the difference in cost. This will mean getting a job, and skipping some jackpots until you get a new one. It may be difficult to get a job without having your license, but you might have to make do in the meantime. |

| At 51, I am thankful I had a stubborn parent....too stubborn to give up on me. I pulled a 2 horse Hale trailer with a 4 cylinder, 3 speed CJ5 Jeep well into college. It would only go 40 MPH, but it got us there. When I wanted a nicer rig (15 year old truck and a stock trailer) I worked at a restaurant until 1:00 AM while going to college in order to pay for it. |
