Hello all!! I would first like to say that I am not a fan of most gag bits. I'm not sure why, I just don't use them on a lot of horses. Anyways, I have been running a gelding in a small gag with a port but am looking for something with a little more control. Can anyone give me some advice on a bridle that might be worth a try? A pretzel maybe? The horse was started as a reiner so he is very broke. Let me know if you have any suggestions!

If the horse has a reining foundation you should have control in most bits, my understanding a reining foundation the horse should be broke and listens to the body cues, not the bit

As mentioned before, this horse is very broke. He is light and is easy to stop, turn around, swap leads . . . Etc. This bit he really seems to like, I was just curious as to if anyone knew of one similar with a little more control to use when making actual runs.
As I am sure you know, many horses tend to me a little stronger when making runs, especially in high pressure situations.
I'm looking for a bit similar to this with a little more control so I'm not having to grab him as much through turns.
Also, yes reigning horses are bred and broke to want to stop, turn . . . They are also broke to carry a "bridle." 1in port or higher. I believe this is way this gelding likes the port gag. Just looking for suggestions. ??

Pretzel is prob your next bet. Although I had strong reiner who liked to evade the bit and could run through a Pretzel. He actually prefers to have nothing in his mouth. I rode him in a tie-Down and a rope nose Carl hack from L&W bits and had the best luck with that. He can be REALLY light, and he can be really unresponsive, depending on his mental state. I can actually stop him in that hack, despite it not looking like much. Good luck!

Sounds like a reiner! I rope on him in a broken mullen but he "hides" behind that in a pattern. That's why I have been riding him in the bit I posted the picture of. He pushes on it more, sounds backwards of what you want a horse to do, but it works. Any suggestions on what pretzel but to buy?
