My beloved barrel horse is very dominant with other horses. We have two lots each with it's own barn and they have one shared fence in the middle Like this [][] The two "King's" of each pen constantly fight between fences. Rearing at the fence, double barrel kicking through it, and jumping, and racing along it. My barrel horse also beats the tar out of any horse he is with. They get shown who's boss right away and then he leaves them alone for the most part. But when he gets bored he chases them around and bites, kicks at them. He's been alone for a while and then he just fights through the fence. He has even killed any cat that passes through his pen. We have safe, clean pens and he always ends up getting hurt. He has ran into a wooden fence post and split open his shoulder, and now he has a deep cut in the fetlock area. From What?! We have aluminum arena panels, smooth, and safe, and sucker rod. Other then that he is my 100% dream horse, teddy bear, kid safe, barrel horse. If I'm standing in the pen he walks up to me and stands with his head down, perfectly calm. I just don't want him getting hurt again!!

He does sound bored! Grab some stall toys!

I'm sure he would love one of the huge excersise looking balls for horses. Or a jolly ball.

He sounds like a character

ETA: Maybe he will "beat up" the toys rather than the others LOL

Has he always been this bad? Maybe have his hormone levels checked.

A nice strand of electric fence along the top amped up with the strongest charger you can find does wonders for fighting across a fence.

Agreed! It's an inexpensive way to stop the fighting and save your fence.

This!
My gelding sounds like your gelding, although mine isn't quite that bad on the fence line. He will nip some hair off if another chooses to park themself beside the fence long enough though and he can't be trusted to reside full time with others. A good shock should stop your issue.

I never thought of using a hot fence! He sure is a character! I will have to find him some "toys!"

Definitely the hot wire and toys! Also, have you tried some kind of a buddy animal for him? A donkey, goat, whatever, just something so he has a little company, but maybe won't view them as "competition"?
