There are rumblings that there is an Equine Herpes outbreak in the Great Lakes area. Talk is that it can be linked to barrel races. Anyone have any confirmed cases? I read there are 10 confirmed cases in California but nothing closer to home. People are talking about not hauling to shows and i'm just seeing if the need for concern is really high or not.

There was ONE confirmed case in MN that I am aware of. It was reported that the horse hasnt traveled and therefore no need for concern at this time. Unless there is another one I am not aware of.

Just heard thru the grapevine that there may be another case or two (in another GL state), but I don't know how credible the source is. There has been rumors of threats being made if owner divulged her positive horse......again, I Just now heard this and have no way of verifying the information. Supposedly one of the Associations was told that there was no need to cancel their event for this weekend but they are erring on the side of caution and cancelling anyways as it was one of their members? with the positive horse.

Yes. Three confirmed cases. Very scary but staying home will hopefully stop anymore cases.
Where did you hear this from? Got notice that a show in MI was cancelled because of a 'virus' from a 'credible source', but they didn't mention more than that.

From my vet. Just err on the side of caution and stay home. MBRA made the right choice. I'm glad it was cancelled. Hopefully it will be contained and we can be back to normal soon. Praying for all those effected.
