Location: Minnesota | Doing some Stallion RESEARCH. I would like to hear what you all think of your favorite Barrel Racing Sires. What some of their babies are like...how easy/hard are they to train...smarts..speedy/ratey... push style/free runner...easy going/Broncy...gritty and full of heart, and the list goes on and on.
Which Studs do you like, have experience with, and would you recommend.
Who has Experience with any of these, and What can you tell me about them:
"Corona Cartel"
"Wagons West" (PYC Paint Your Wagon)
"Rex Hill" (Dash take Fame)
Does anyone know of any Studs out there crossed PYC Paint Your Wagon and Flit Bar / Firewater flit, etc...

| I know a few Corona Cartel horses, make great barrel horses IF you can get them...most go to the track, and most you cant touch for less than 20k, a good one that is. If I ever get the chance to own one, I will. He is one of the best sires there is. In the barrel pen, the ones I've seen are pretty free running, but can flat sit and turn. They have heart, and can be strong willed, but so worth it. Really depends what the bottom side is.
Wagons West I know. Saw him sell at the 2013 Heritage Place Winter Mixed sale for $5,000. Wade Helton bought him and got a steal of a deal. He went on to place 2nd in the Mr Jet Moore Stakes [G3]. He has won a little over $51,000 out of 13 starts on the track and pretty sure has a SI of 107. He was also Oklahoma Regional Champ 3yr old colt. I would give him a shot if I was looking to breed to a PYC son. He's reasonable, and no foals are on the ground yet.

Location: Minnesota | Awesome. Thank you for your reply, the info, and your time!
I'm really liking the Corona Cartel / PYC Studs. My eye always stops on their ad's, and absolutely LOVE the looks of them. But other than seeing a Cartel horse around at some rodeos and races, that's all I know of them. Liked the running styles of them, that is, of the handful I have seen run here and there...
I have ALWAYS loved the Flit Bar lines. Got the chance to run a couple of them, and really liked the way they "hunted" or "cowed" to a barrel. Now that has always stuck in my head, and I would like to get into those lines eventually.
On the other hand, trying to keep my options open and learn more about what's out there.
A little about my Mare: My little Mare isn't the fastest horse out there, but she gives it everything she has EVERY time, in anything that she is asked to do. She is a walk in, walk out of the arena kind of horse. She is incredibly personable, Gritty, and for Sure one of thee Smartest horses I have trained and rode. Last year was her first outing, and at "local" rodeos and races, she was in at least, the top 5 all season. This year, I am hoping to see where she will sit at larger races, and to see if she continues too be consistent. Like I said before, I Know she isn't the fastest little horse out there, BUT she has BEAUTIFUL barrels and I know that's why she continues to clock. Depending on how she does this season (I highly believe mares have to prove their worth before breeding), I am willing to spend some money on a good stud and GREAT lines. We also use her here at the Ranch; sorting and moving cattle. She is a cow bred mare; "Doc Bar" and "OLenas Command". | |

| If you will look at what horses are winning at futurities. Look at their sires. This will tell you which sires are producing horses that are trainable, have the most grit and are bringing the best prices. Dash Ta Fame will continue to be the best producer of barrel horses for years to come. Frenchman's Guy has had sensational results this year. Firewaterontherocks has produced some pretty nice futurity horses and had one go to the NFR. This is pretty good for a horse as young as he is. | |
