I am treating my gelding for EPM round 2 and he also has some allergy/respiratory issues. I am wanting to put him on something to help cope with those issues and support his immune system and overall health. He will be getting Pentosan injections, gets AirPower before runs and he is on allergy shots as well. What has worked for you? THE, Platinum, certain SmartPacks combos, OxyGen?

With THE you would get all the vitamins, minerals, amino acids, naturally occuring probiotics and electrolytes. You can add allergy/breather to the mix as a special blend and they also have an EPM blend. You would be feeding just one supplement. 80 doses ordered through me would be $80.95 shipped, 160 doses (5 1/2 months worth) $152.35 shipped. I suggest THE because it is tried and true, I have been using it for over 5yrs now.

I started my mare on THE about 2 weeks ago-ish. I just treated her for EPM about 2 months ago. I brushed her yesterday before I rode and she as SUPER soft. She is looking really good. Still some shedding out to do, but I was so surprised. I took a picture, but of course the lighting sucks so you can't tell much.

She is on THE Performance with the Ulcer, Moody Mare, and Focus custom mix.

We started Hearts For Lena on THE. She was a little arthritic. We rode her yesterday and there is already a big difference.

What is in the allergy/breather blend? Would you use it for mild allergies or more serious respiratory issues like RAO?

Do the allergy shots not help?  I have them in my fridge for my gelding, but won't start them until he's home from aquatredding.  I was hoping I could treat the allegies and eliminate the Dex shot a couple of hours before warming up.

the allergy/breather is a smaller dose of their PulmonEZ-for all things lung health. What is RAO? I know some use it for mild allergies, dry cough (myself included due to drought) to heaves or bleeders.

Recurrent Airway Obstruction is just the fancy term for heaves. Does it help with the mucus buildup in the airways?

I heard from my vets that its really important to give vitamin e during and after EPM treatment. I used the Med-Vet kind, I think it was like 35$ at horse.com. I was really pleased with how the horse felt and looked on it, def worth the money

I have 2 bottles of Vitamin E that I picked up when I was waiting for results of an EPM test. I would sell them cheap just to get them out of my tack room. One is opened and 1 dose out to see if he would eat it.

They helped a ton but he will still cough when something in his hay or environment changes. We haven't pinpointed what it is that causes his to flair up but the shots made a huge improvement, just didn't cure it.

THE has always worked great for all of my horses. EPM lives in a horse forever but you can get the numbers down to managable rates that you don't notice any symptons. I know for EPM you have to not only treat the body but the blood too. We mostly treat the body but this is why some horses relapse, because it is still in the blood. I know THE has an EPM formula that you give for a few months that helps the body to lower the levels in the blood. Then you can do the blend or just go straight to the blend and see if it helps. Not sure how many other companies have EPM fomulas. Hope you find what works best for you! KNOCK ON WOOD*** mine has been staying good.

Need Vitamin E - Platinum makes a good one so does smart pak - you need like 7-10k IU's a day.. then once symptoms drop maybe drop to about 5k for maintenance cause they do get it from good hay and some from feed too... also - might suggest getting in touch w/Dr. Ellison at Pathogenes - im sure she'd suggest a treatment of Orogin - not expensive compared to some of these supplements (like 150)being recommended and it has both the decoquinate in it to kill the protozoa but also the levamisole that works as anti-inflammatory but also immune boosting - they give levamisole to human cancer patients b/c helps immune system so much... i know dr. ellison can rx just the levamisole if she doesn't feel needs the 2nd ingredient decoquinate but she may want to run a treatment of Orogin with both first then follow up w/levamisole.. works wonders.. honestly a miracle drug for bad EPM cases and relapses. google dr.ellison at pathogenes for her contact info..

Check out The Edge (theedgeup.ca) I started using this last summer and have never looked back. My horses have never looked or felt better and it reaches out to the whole horse plus is all natural!
Within 2 weeks my mare's respiratory issue improved drastically -- I was able to stop using salbutamol when working at home where I was using it before every ride. Has also helped to boost her immune system. My favorite supplement in the world!!!

He was tested and was treated with Orogin last fall. I retested him again two weeks ago and he had high levels again so we are doing the Neuroquel on him right now. I'm just looking for something to put him on that will help support him after treatment as I think all his allergy/EPM issues are interrelated.

I have been looking at their products but am a bit confused what they would suggest to use and I don't find an analysis anywhere? Same with THE. I could be blind and not seeing it listed anywhere but I would like to compare levels before buying. It looks like their Take No Prisoners formula is what they suggest to use on horses with neurological issues and would fit my needs but there are a lot of options. I looked at their O2 paste to put him on before races but it's like $25 per dose it doesn't seem very economical.

Call Bob and he can tell you exactly what you need. THE has some of the best customer service out there. He has formulated special supplements for individuals that need something different than the norm.

He doesn't list amounts of each ingredient as it could be easily copied. I asked about it recently and I guess I never thought about it that way :) But he will go out of his way to help people.
