I would like to purchase a small generator that I can handle by myself. Which Honda do you use to run the air conditioner on the trailer only? I take my dogs with me and would like to run the air for them once it gets hot, but need one I can load and unload easily. I have one that is too bulky now. Would like a Honda because of being quiet. I am open to other brands that are quiet. Thanks.

We have a Yamaha. It's light, it works awesome, and you can't even hear it running.

I just purchased a Honda 2000 portable generator so I can run the a/c. It weighs about 47lbs.  I searched around and I think Honda has a price fix - the prices all seemed the same. We purchased from a local dealer just in case it ever needs servicing. We paid about $1100 - This one had extra outputs on it - the other version with 2000hp is $999.

So the 2000 runs your air with no problems?

We had a Honda 3000/3400 and 90% of the time it worked fine. On real hot, humid days (100+), it would kick out as just not quite big enough. Was on a 6' short wall weekender that was fully finished/insulated.

Had it in the rear tack. We put a vent fan in there and leaving the rear tack door open, didn't seem to help.
Good luck!

one 2000 will not you have to have 2 of them , they plug together, most air conditioners will run with Honda 3000 but some times when it is really hot they also will not start the compressor.

I've had a Honda 3000 for 5 yrs and no complaints.  I can move it in and out of my trailer just fine.  Its heavy, but its not so heavy it can't be done.  I have an 8' LQ and it runs my AC just fine.  I do have to turn off the AC if I use the microwave, or if I run my blow dryer.  It will run them both but it really bogs down, so its just easier to shut one off.

Thanks. I do not want to have to buy two. I use a 3500 continuos now and it works great, just too bulky for me to use alone.

How much does the 3000 weigh. The internet says shipping weight is over 100 pounds.

It is a handful for me to move around. Putting wheels under it helps, but you don't want to have to move to much. I would say right at 100 lbs.

I see Polaris is offering a Honda knock off. They look identical. Asked dealer if they where made by Honda and he didn't know but he suspected it. They were ~$200 cheaper than Honda at the local Polaris dealer. No idea if they work as good but the are identical in every aspect except they are blue.

I have the 3000 and I have to do the same thing. Not a huge deal for me. It is about 100 lbs though. So in the spring I just put it in the back of my truck and there is stays all summer. It doesn't bother my sleep at night at all. I have had it now 3 yrs and haven't had any issues.

My next add on to the generator is the remote start unit for it, those are about $200.

IMHO 4000 is too small, and 5000 is barely enough. You can purchase a generator with a Honda engine. A complete Honda generator engine and generator combo is not necessary, and is over priced.

These are invertors so they put out more power  basically same as a 5000 w generator

I went with the two 2000 Hondas. To run the air, I must run them joined. I guess, now I would of been happier with the 3000 with remote start.

I am not aware of a remote start for a Honda. I was able to use the Onan remote start wiring/switch arrangement and got it to work. BUT, you have a manual choke and key on the Honda. Had to leave key on and had to be able to start without use of the choke from the remote location.

I just used a 4 wire trailer plug in order to unplug the switch to remove the generator. Was also a pain to fuel as had to pull the generator out of the rear tack.

I like my perm. mounted Onan a lot better.

As far as getting stolen, yup, they do. I have heard several disappearing around the OKC Fairgrounds as they seem to be a hot item for resale down there!!!

Mine is chained into the bed of the truck with the tow hooks. Not that that is fool proof, but it at least makes them work for it. If they want it bad enough they can have it. It's worth the insurance claim to replace it with another one.

I chain mine to the trailer with a lock, and when not in use, and I am not by the trailer, I will throw it in the back of the trailer and can lock the trailer.

In the back of the truck I put the chain around the gooseneck

It isn't fail safe, but it will detour people

A Cool Sharp One

200020005001002525
we just purchased a Honda 3000 generator and online found an "all terrain" wheel kit for it so I can move it around, my husband is overly cautious (all my saddles in the trailer are connected thru a cable and locked to the saddle stand) and he did the same thing for the generator, bought a set of 3 matching locks and chain to protect it.

I have the honda inverter 2000. It runs my AC just fine ( I had it on low cool). I even watched TV while the air was on. I am going to buy the other 2000 later on, just incase I ever stay in the trailer very long. We also have the 3000 inverter, my daughter has in her trailer, it can be moved by one person but its a pain. We keep a cable and lock on them. I love how quiet they are!!!

We have the two 2000s hooked together to run our overhead air. When we used the 3000 during the heat of the summer it sometimes didn't work. I hated that thing as it was a pain to move. Had to find someone to help me lift down out of the truck to run and load it back up. The 2000s are like little suitcases and I can easily put them where they need to be. Plus you get more power for about the same price.
