Okay everyone! i have a gelding that is completely automatic. super push style, always gos in hunting a barrel no matter where we go. real worky worky guy. you can run him in a halter and he will literally work the same as if you had a bit in his mouth. well I've been trying to "free" him up. He really "compact" when i run him and no "free" and really running if that makes sense? i seen where everyone said babyflo needed to be free'd up and then she ran at the nor in that treeless saddle and everyone said that helped. I've had a treeless and hated but open to trying it again if people thought it would help.

i really can't do a whole lot of slow exercises, he tends to get really hot at home. he has no had his legs ran off, and he is 100% sound. it might just be his style but i was just wondering what everyone else thought! :-)

Breezing him would be the only thing I could think of. Maybe run him in some big pens (if you aren't already doing that). That helps to free one up sometimes.

good luck!

My mare will open up when I breeze her at home. But in the pen I think she is worried about hitting the fence or something because between 1st and 2nd she isn't free'd up as much as she could be. So my advice is either breezing, or if you have a huge pen to run in then utilize that. That is what helped my mare, running a few times in our local arena that is used for pro-rodeo.
