Does the Double J Charmayne fit the same as the Cactus? Also are there any other opinions on the Double J Charmayne? I was looking for a Cactus Charmayne, but I have found a Double J Scamper. I haven't heard much about them though.

They fit different. A little narrower IMO than the Cactus CJ. I used to have 2 Double J CJ's and loved them. I sold a Scamper because the seat was way too big for me. I also had a double J Record Breaker that I loved. No clue why the heck I sold it. I've kicked myself ever since. I have 3 Cactus CJ's now.

I had a Cactus Brandie Halls with a 7" gullet and it did not fit my big gelding. But I am guessing all the Cactus models fit differently. I just recently bought an older Charmayne James Double J and I LOVE how it fits me and my horse. It is the wide fit model and for the first time since I have been riding this horse, I have even sweat marks and no dry spots under my pad. The first time I put the Cactus on - my horse bucked - on the longe line. I called Double J and the Charmayne James model I bought is 12 years old and Charmayne is now with Reinsman saddles. But - I love the fit of this saddle on my stout gelding. He feels better in it as well. Hope this helps and good luck to you.

We also have a Brandi Halls and it doesn't fit our horses. It may have a 7" gullet but the bars are too straight up and down. The Cactus CJ also has a 7" gullet but they flare out.

That would explain why it didn't fit my gelding. He did not like it from the first time I put it on him. It sure was a pretty saddle though. :) This older model Charmayne James Double J that I bought is the wide fit and it fits him wonderfully.
