Location: NE Texas | I just wanted to take a second to send a quick shout out to SG and to thank her for our discussion at Diamonds & Dirt about the Bluebonnet Feeds Omege Force Intensify. What a difference it is making in how my horses are looking! I've only been feeding it for almost 3 weeks but there is truly a huge difference in my horses in that short amount of time. Finally something that makes sense without having to mix 27 different things in a bucket! Thank you, SG, again for sharing this info with me and thank you to Bluebonnet Feeds for finally formulating a feed that makes sense nutritionally and is good for our horses! |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | Do you have any on a different feed for comparison? Just wondering because body condition does tend to improve this time of year anyway. Not knocking the product, just curious, as I can't get bluebonnet anyway. When I quit ADM, I split mine into 2 programs and saw better results with one, so I'm putting them all on that. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I love BlueBonnet feeds, thats all I would feed when I lived in the Valley. But moved up here to Seguin and never could find it and nobody wanted to sell it in their store's, real bummer. The only store that did have it was TSC and nope wont buy from them, their feed is never fresh. I did finally find a feed that's good, but if I ever come across BlueBonnet I sure would not pass it up, they are a good company. |

Yes, I did leave one horse on the safechoice and he didn't improve like the others did. Saw such dramtic changes in three weeks that I started changing him over just this week, and he's the easiest keeper of the bunch typically! |

curious what your feed program looks like
because at $950 a ton it's for sure not economical.
Can you tell us what and how you feed?

Can you tell us what and how you feed? Sure, I'm feeding a half scoop of the grain twice a day along with two flakes of grass hay. All of my horses are in dry lots. I do have one colt that gets to go out on grass a couple of hours a day, but the others do not get to. So yes, the feed is expensive, but i'm feeding half as much as I did of the safechoice and supplementing nothing to two of my horses. The third horse is getting a full scoop and supplement for his breathing due to him getting a little under the weather and losing weight because of being sick, but that is it and this was before starting this feed. I actually think i'll be able to back him off to half a scoop in the next month or so. Before I was feeding Safechoice, plus Forco, plus alfalfa.

Location: Beggs, OK | Omega Force is formulated so that you feed MUCH less than you would of most other feeds. We are paying $20.95 a bag which would equal $838/ton. For a 1,200# horse in intense training you would feed a maximum of 9# a day. We feed them a free choice mineral and because of gastrointestinal issues caused by feed that was contaminated with ionophore cattle medication they also get the BB Transform DSI supplement to help them. Under normal circumstances you wouldn't need to add anything to this feed. |

Location: Here | You are welcome... there are many that educated me on this subject. I think this is going to be an each one teach one deal. My horses have done an amazing turn about as well after getting them off of that other Crap Anyways Everyone needs to keep after these mills. That latest news isn't good. These mills are getting good at blowing smoke about this issue We've just received an update that affects many people that we know. The mill in OKC that produces Nutrena Feeds is NOT ionophore free. While they don't use Monensin, they do use Lasalocid in their medicated feeds. Contrary to what many will tell you regarding the toxicity of Lasalocid this is a HUGE issue. The study below is worth the time to read...particularly the paragraph regarding delayed neurotoxicity on the 5th page. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/…/j.1939-1676.2012.00933…/pdf

It is very economical to feed when you consider the health of the horse, vet bills, and side effects. Plus I don't have to add anything just scoop and feed. I do add water to mine as mine like slop |

Restate your question. This is a thread about the positive results of a simple feed change that took out the risk of poisoning our horses. I don't understand you Need to argue. Horse feed is expensive. I am paying the same thing for Blue Bonnet as I was Safe Choice so your logic isn't there. |

I'm not arguing.
I'm trying to learn.
If you read the feeding recommendations from BB they are approximatly 25% less than a standard, quality textured feed.
Say 1-1.5 % of body weight.
This feed is listing .75%
ALl I'm say is what am I missing?

You need to feed according to your horse's individual needs... My purple scoop = 3 pounds. So I feed according to the bag on each horses's feeding needs. If you are interpreting it is less, which is what Rachel is saying, then start out at that lower rate |

If you look at the ingredient list it's an extremely concentrated feed and is meant to be fed in smaller amounts to reduce to possibilities of gastrointestinal issues. We keep grass hay and alfalfa in front of our horses all the time as well as a bucket of Chaffhaye in their pens or stalls. Since we started feeding Omega Force they are eating much less Chaffhaye and will walk away from their alfalfa instead of eating it first. |

| Ok,
I give up.
I'm not denying it is a good food. I'm sure it is. I'm also not denying that it is concentrated
What I was trying to figure out is economy of the ration. Even at a reduced feed rate of 25% it's still pretty darn pricey.
That is all I was trying to wrap my brain around.
Good day.

Don't give up. Just trying to understand what you are asking. It sounded like you were arguing the cost. As I stated earlier Safe Choice was costing me the same thing as Blue Bonnet. And I had to feed twice as much to have my horses look not even near as good. And I don't have to add anything to this ration. Nothing. So it is a good feed to simply dip and serve. Cuts costs and time And look at the pictures of my yearling she is living proof. In fact I cut her ration even more this week as she is a little tubby. But finally something that she is filled out on and looks great. So, I guess I didn't answer your question earlier, it is work the same price as safe choice and it is more economical to feed even at having to drive 70 miles one way to get it. My horse is healthier, looks better worth the trip to me |

A simple example is:
For my horses feeding 1.5% of a 1,200# horse= 18#
Here's the math if I fed another "quality textured feed" that cost me $17/bag.
$17/50= .34/per lb. 18# * .34= $6.12 per horse per day
For my horses on Omega Force at .7# per 100# of a 1,200# horse=8.4#
$20.95/50#=.42/per lb. 8.4# * .42= $3.53 per horse per day

Alfalfa Pellets
Manna Pro Stabilized Rice Bran Pellets
Renew Gold
All I can say is out of those 3, Renew gold is the most cost effective.... but I want to compare the Intesify |

We know now that we have a more significant issue with them as well, but the Omega Force is making a difference where nothing else has. |

TwistedK - 2015-04-01 1:52 PM Herbie - 2015-04-01 1:29 PM TwistedK - 2015-04-01 1:16 PM SG - which bluebonnet product are you feeding? I was just looking at their website and it is available in my area. Seriously considering it Omega Force Intensify, it's in a black bag with purple writing. You MUST try this TwistedK....you will not be sorry!
I will seriously look into it. I just did a cost analysis on 3 different feeds for 4 horses. Alfalfa Pellets Manna Pro Stabilized Rice Bran Pellets Renew Gold All I can say is out of those 3, Renew gold is the most cost effective.... but I want to compare the Intesify
Okay why are you feeding manna pro stabilized rice bran pellets, when that is the main ingredient in Renew gold? Just curious
here is what I am feeding http://bluebonnetfeeds.com/department/intensify-omega-force-pellets/
I was looking at doing either Renew Gold or the Manna Pro but not both. I got a price on the Intensify Pelleted feed. Is that the same as the Omega? |

Location: Missouri | Okay so even though I've been around forever I guess I've never given much thought to a formula for feeding my horses. I'm referring to the 1.5 per 1200#. Is that the standard average measure for feed? All my life I've just given this one more because he needs more, and this one less because she's an easy keeper and gets fat. I've never actually measured or weighed my feed.
All my horses appear to be healthy and look normal to me. I find this facinating and wish I had a clue as to how to determine the best nutritional value for my horses so that I get the most they can give.
Keep talking! |

| Bluebonnet also has several other kinds of feed that also are very good. I feed Omega Force (Intensify) to my barrel horse, but they have a cheaper feed that my young mare gained weight on while at the trainer's and she only received four pounds a day of it (along with alfalfa hay). |

Omega Force is formulated so that you feed MUCH less than you would of most other feeds.
I buy my Omega Force in Ardmore, next to the BB mill, and I pay $23.95/50 lb bag. I only buy 300 lbs at a time so get no cost break. |
