So after A LOT of work my colt finally will stay collected all through the pattern at a lope, however now how can I get him to make his turns a little more snappy while keeping his butt under him?
Just looking for for some good drills on or off the pattern.

I'm going to suggest roll backs. They may take a little while to get the hang of, but get after them a little when you're asking them to turn back, I think they can help really teach a young horse to get under themselves and come around with the front end quick.

I have two ways do this, first is I go into the barrel with a pocket about 1ft wider than his normal. When I get to the point that I like the colt to really shove off hard I do an inside spin on the hocks. I walk him out of it or trot and then circle the barrel again. When I get to that point the second time I take my outside foot and ask for haunches in and have them complete the barrel in an upward gait from the one that I was working them in. Now, I too, love to do rollbacks on the fence and have them getting snappy in their dry work. That keeps them more sane on the pattern when the pressure is away from those barrels and it just comes along from the dry work into the pattern work. If I have a colt making short choppy stride around the barrel and I feel they should stride out a bit more-I put up big car size tires and have them work that circle till they get some extension in front end all the while they are driving with the hindquarters.
