I certainly hope I word this correctly and don't confuse anyone.
I recently bought a gelding who is certainly a lengthy free runner with a rollback style. He has been fast loping a solid pattern for the past year but has not progressed (has not been hustled yet either). When he does start adding some speed he really gets hung up on the 3/4 side of the barrel (where he rolls back over himself). To me it feels like he is gathering himself up to push off and head to the next barrel, but he is losing a ton of time. He almost is at a complete stop.
I'm not really sure what exercises to do as far as teaching him to quickly get in, get out and continue forward momentum. I haven't competitively ran a horse that is both a roll back style and free runner. He is super soft and really broke, I'm just unsure what exercises I could do to help with keeping forward momentum. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! :)
