I have a mare that is due with her first foal. I haven't had a baby around in FOREVER! Last time I had a pregnant mare was 10+ years ago.
What are some signs that the baby will be coming soon?
She should be due any day according to my calendar. Her bag isn't huge but is filling up. What should I be looking for? Any help is much appreciated!!

They are all different. We have one we think will go this evening. She's bagged up but been bagged up for a couple weeks. When she bags up completely, front and back she's always close. Some mares wax. She will loosen up around her tailhead and backend when she's close. If she will let you milk her, the creamier it gets usually the closer. If you want to get fancy, you can buy some of the ph test strips from walmart and ph test the milk. This will give you a pretty good indicator.

Also for a refresher the AQHA actually has some very informative articles on foaling on their web page you can read. I printed them out and gave them to my husband as i was not going to be home on the due date. However, as most horses do, she waited until I got home.

My mare waits til I am not available or not home to foal!!! She didn't even wax this time. Last time she had one drop of wax on one nipple & foaled 2 hours later!!!
