Location: East Texas | Thank you so much for all the prayers. They were and still are needed. Some of you here have met Cole. So I will let you know what happened and it is good for me to talk in a semi-anonymous setting.
He was roping with his granddad. Cole had a smooth run straight down the arena, and for no reason the horse stumbled and both horse and rider cartwheeled head over heals and the horse rolled over Cole. His mom and sister were in Marshal at a barrel race when they got the news and I was coaching a HS baseball game in another town. We both left in the middle of what we were doing and made the 2-3hr drive to get to him. My father (Cole's granddad) held him in his arms for hours until they made him give him up.
Well, you can imagine (and some may know) the misery that was being felt, but I asked his 10 yo sister what she wanted to do about her two day barrel race. She said she wanted to go race. Her brother would want to go to the arena over sitting around the house being sad. So I said you bet I will take you. Well, I couldn't breath when she took off down the ally, but she came out with her fastest time yet in Marshall. I also want to thank Ms. Martha for being so kind to my daughter.
I have been overwhelmed by the love that has been shown by the rodeo world. Some of his favorite pro cowboys, not so pro cowboys, stock contractors, people I didn't even know that he met at the sale barn,, and even his favorite rodeo clown came from all over the country came to tell stories of Cole and how he impacted their lives and to give support to our family.
One of my favorite stories and it kind of shows how Cole made you feel.... One of his adult cowboy friends stood up at the service and said how he wanted to come to visitation the night before because he felt like he was Cole's special friend, but when he looked up and saw the other 2,000 people roll up he realized Cole had lots if special friends..... That is just how Cole made you feel, special.
Thanks for listening and forgive all the typos, fragments and run-ons. It is just hard to type through all the tears on my phone screen.
I included a link to my FB page. If you can not answer the question I pUT foreword, please contact me.

Location: MD | My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this special young man. I had the great pleasure of meeting and learning from Cole when he attended my clinic in TX last January. His infectious smile and exuberance were and absolute joy to be around. He taught us all that weekend to have faith in ourselves, to believe in our abilities and to go after whatever we were doing with all that we had. Such an inspiring young man and what a fitting tribute this scholarship is! |

Location: East Texas | A new days dawns and I must force myself out of bed... I have to look on the positive side, but it is hard but it is possible. In all of the chaos I had forgotten, but it was my birthday. Well, we decided to get out of town for a few days. We needed a break both mentally and physically. Apparently the hwy patrolman thought I was going too fast on his highway and pulled me over... saw it was my birthday and let me go with a warning. Later we are miles from home eating in a restaurant and a lady from our home town walks in who had also lost a family member. So here we are in another state and see a friend. Well, we are all standing in the middle of the restaurant hugging each other and crying together. I know everyone was probably looking at us like who are these crazy people. Someone even picked up our tab.
This morning we are headed out to a friend's farm because my daughter wants to see all of his new baby colts. He prob has about 30 right now. He has even said she can have her pick of the ones that don't make his stables. (Oh my!!! Any of you know about training TBs?) I hope all of you take this opportunity to hug you kids extra tight and tell them you love them |

It it my personal belief that when our young ones are called home, it is because they've already done the good, touched the live and spread jesus's love to those that God had in their plan. It is because of this, God calls them home to heaven. We here on earth have a hard time, because we want to rationalize and understand, to find a reason. But God's plan for us all is different, and only understood through faith.
God will see you through and my prayers are with you through every step of this walk. Give it to Jesus, he will help you with this terrible weight.
