| I have been searching for a new puppy for a long time now and came across a cute little Blue Heeler x Texas heeler mix. So she's 3/4 heeler and 1/4 aussie. Do you think the mix would look like a blue heeler, I've seen some pretty odd looking texas heelers and don't wanna end up with some creepy looking thing lol. Any experience with the cross? |

If she's taking the dog from someone with an "oops" litter, that's adopting
If she is buying dogs intentionally bred like this, she would be supporting yet another backyard breeder and providing incentive for them to keep breeding.
I suppose it all depends on the situation regarding how she's procuring said dog. |

I get tired of hearing this, "only registered from a responsible breeder". Who says that because a dog is registered the breeder was "responsible"?
I can't think of one working cowboy I know that uses full blooded pedigreed dogs.
Pedigreed dogs come with a plethora of health issues too. Inbreeding to breed true for breed characteristics have not been kind to so many pedigreed breeds out there.
If there are people who are legitimately cross breeding dogs for a purpose and not just to pump out puppies for profit, what makes them any less responsible than pedigreed dog breeders?

they aren't "designer dogs" and they aren't pets. They have a purpose.
People led who cross random dogs because they have a uterus/they want to make a buck are the problem
Im tired of the schmos who sell their lab/beagle x Great Pyrenees/GSD puppies on Craigslist for 2oo bucks a piece.

| I think everyone should have their dogs fixed unless licensed to breed... But then. I'm on a road where we take in a lot of strays.  Which irritates me... if you loved your pets you'd get them fixed instead of having " oops " puppies.
Personally I adopt. If they have heeler in them, they tend to be trainable to do heeler work. I've owned a lot of heeler, aussie and husky mutts. I've seen some very pretty aussie/heeler mixes. If you already think she's cute, then why not?

Iowa, YES they do look like Blue Heelers, their hair is just a little longer (like an Aussie). Sometimes they just don't dock their tails - if that matters to you. |

| Thanks! I have my heart set on a Blue Heeler, and have searched the shelters but have only found indoor mixed dogs or psychos, there isn't any blue heeler's I have found in our area. A Texas heeler is a hybrid dog bred on purpose, a 50/50 mix between Blue Heeler, and Australian Shepherd and are known for being extremely intelligent, loyal, and affectionate. I do my research and IMO buying from a backyard breeder who takes great care of their dogs and yes, probably wants to make a few bucks, is better from buying from a puppy mill. |

| I would think one with that much heeler in it would look pretty close to a heeler. I had a 3/4 Border Collie 1/4 Heeler before, he looked exactly like a full blooded border collie. I don't consider them a completely random cross as theyre pretty common. I have a heeler and he's a great dog. |

We know who the dada is & she is legit 1/2 aussie, 1/2 heeler. MORE energy that any dog needs,herds EVERYTHING & EVERYONE and is loyal to a fault. I don't think I would have another one, but she is a great dog |

Location: Charlestown, IN | Here is my 1/2 heeler 1/2 aussie. I think she very much so looks like a heeler. She's built more like an aussie though, in my opinion. She does have a little thicker/longer hair than most heelers. She has a really thick undercoat. And she has a long tail. She is the best dog EVER and I did pay money for her.. She is also healthy. She is protective of my family and she is an amazing working dog. Worth every penny I paid too.. Just have to throw that out there for the ones saying not to pay for a "mutt".

And while I am against breeding in general, I think this is not different than those $4k bulldogs with all their known health risks that people not only continue to breed as pets only but they do so because they can make big bucks.
It is also no differnt than those who breed NON DTF or FG horses which many consider not worthy of breeding. I am not sure the answer, not looking to debate. But the main message should be- spay and nueter.  |
