  Shipwrecked and Flat Out Zapped

Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :) | I said this on Facebook a few minutes ago and it is true. My Fred taught me unconditional love, he taught me patience, kindness and emptiness. To say that I loved that little dog was an understatement. I picked him up and put him in bed 10 times a night because he pretended that he couldn't jump that high (which was not true). Bryan and I took him everywhere. We snuck him in every hotel we stayed at. Shoved him in bags. He love chicken and cracklins and to ride horses and the lawn mower. He loved going to the Dollar Store and Walmart. My heart is so empty. So, very empty.
But, Linda Glaze went to a shelter in Texas looking for a Fred today. Tia sent me a picture of a dog on the other side of Texas. Shelly found a puppy and contacted a girl for me and sent pictures. Murphy found me one in Indiana lol. Karen Campbell stepped up and said she'd go get that dog on the other side of Texas (wow). So, I called. His name is Hootie. He's had a broken leg that healed bad and a piece of his ear is missing. He's had a rough little life. They said he is loving, loves to take rides and sit in your lap. His eyes look like Fred's. So, with help, I'm going to get him.
They didn't ask, but it's a small rescue and I saw that they need supplies. Once they are full they have to stop accepting dogs until their numbers decline. In honor of Fred, I am going to send a box of the supplies they asked for: paper towels, bleach, latex gloves, laundry soap and pine sol. They will take donations too. There address is:

Location: NE Texas | This post makes my heart smile, Jen, it truly does! Our animals change us in ways that we never realize and yes, they are our children in many ways. Fred was a part of you, and he has taken a part of you with him without a doubt. The way I have always tried to think of this type of loss and to handle the pain that goes with it is to think that maybe it is God's way of saying that it's time to start a new chapter, a new part of life. That is not to say that we shouldn't remember these great friends we've had and the great times we've spent with them, but rather to honor them and their lives going forward smiling at those times and laughing about the silly things they did and we did with them. Hootie will not be a replacement, but rather and addition, a new chapter....complete with new memories, new experiences, and new laughter. Our life will be made up of several chapters throughout the book, some end sadly and begin sadly and others go by so fast that we forget to enjoy them. I'm happy to see that you're starting a new chapter in your book and I know that Hootie is going to be a great addition to your group. He will not take the place of Fred, but maybe somehow, someway he can allow you to let Fred go in knowing that giving Hootie the chance to experience that same great love. Hootie and Fred are both lucky little men to get to live with you and be loved by you, my good buddy!
I too am going to send a box of donations to the shelter and if I can help get Hootie to you, i'd be happy to! I love you dearly, there are so many of us that do, and whatever we need to do to get this crazy chihuahua to his new crazy owner, i'm in!!!!! Love ya, buddy!

Thank you, buddy. You always know what to say. Karen lives in Gordonville and could maybe get him to you. I need to take my mare to Kasey's next Sunday...so maybe we could meet somewhere?? No pressure. Just anyone willing to drive a few miles would really help. I could bring live crawfish for anyone meeting me :) |

Location: In a happy place | I don't know where Hootie is exactly but as I told you I will certainly be happy to drive him part of all of the way to you. One of my all time best ever horses name was Hootie....you don't hear that name much.
Please whoever is in charge of the trip let me know. I just know that Fred would want to help this little guy. It looks like he just needs some loving.
I couldn't wait to see pictures of Fred on Facebook. It brought such joy to me and smile to my face. I will miss his pictures. I have cried a bucketful of tears along side you my friend. |

Fred knew he was loved and I'm sure he thought he was part human. Losing a great dog is like losing a best friend. There isn't anything we can say to make this easier, but we are praying for you.
Fred would want you to have Hootie and give him the same love. Share pictures when you get Hottie!

| Well, I never intended to start a movement...
Let me just say this. I never liked chihuahuas, never wanted one and while I might have sympathized with Jennifer just as I would anyone who lost a pet, this little guy made me emphathize. If you have never known one of this willful, obnoxious, sweet, loving, hardheaded (that's a not nice way of saying willful) I think you are missing out. Ocho showed up last July. I never planned to keep him yet he is sitting on my lap as I type this. He can't lay on the blanket by my feet, he must have the lap. He screamed at me the whole time I fed because he wanted out to be with me and then ran away from me when I came in the yard. We all love our dogs. I put a 14 year old down this year and it hurt, but she had good life. Another younger one is having health issues and I am worried, but regardless how much their loss hurts, I cannot imagine a life without dogs and or horses. Anyway, here is my brat. I am 45 minutes from that shelter if I can help.

Location: Red Raiderland | Oh Jen, Fred will be soo happy if you take Little Hootie in. Like Herbie said, he is certainly not a replacement but a new chapter for you. From experience losing one and having another there to cuddle with has definitely helped my broken heart.

Location: Winging It in KY | I too am sorry for your loss but just know that God brings people and animals into your life for a reason. Only you will know that reason.
I felt exactly as kmcsunshine about that breed of dog until I acquired a Chihuahua many years ago, too. I then changed my mind. I walked out of my house and there on the porch it sat looking at me with those buggy little eyes and shaking. I never intended to keep it either but it melted my heart and became Uggy Bug (that's short for ugly dog with buggy eyes). He soon had a sweater and a heated dog bed and was the best dog. He was very protective of me, no one was allowed to touch me except my husband, otherwise he would be on them like stink on poop! He was my first and only lap dog. He always showed appreciation for being taken in and loved. I'm sure that Hootie will appreciate everything that you will do for him in the years to come.
My Uggy has passed over the Rainbow Bridge as Fred has done. If you have never read the Rainbow Bridge poem, I have put a link here for you.

Location: Kentucky | My Dad lost his 16 year old Cocker Spaniel this past October. She was his number one in life. In January, he bought and picked up an 8 week old Cocker Spaniel puppy. I swear it's Sadie reincarnated. It's strange how things work out sometimes. That puppy does a lot of the same stuff and acts just like Sadie. It's kinda eerie. I'm betting Hootie Pants will be the same way :) |
