My mare gets gunky eyes in the spring/summer. What do you give your horses with allergies? Her eyes have been checked by a vet and they are not scratched, injuried, etc. She does better with a fly mask on during the day when out in the pasture.

Try to ask the vet if a tear duct flush would be good. Alot of dirty can get built up in there and that helps tremendously. Also a fly mask is very helpful for these horses during the summer (esp when it is windy)

I have started putting a fly mask on my gelding with allergies as much as possible... he's allergic to some flies!! I just feel so bad for him. We're also doing allergy shots, so I hope that helps him... but I will probably start to add some type of anti-hist to his feed and see if that gives him any relief.

Yes, she wears a fly mask during the day when out in the pasture and that does help. At night I take it off in the stall, but in the morning her eyes are gunked back up. Pretty nasty stuff. She is weird about her face/eyes, so flushing may not even be an option. I've had her almost a year and she is just now starting to let me touch her face.
