That God has a plan for everything so no matter what happens it is God's will or that we have free will and chose the path we take?

I personally believe in free will and it is not in God's plan for us to suffer.  Suffering and hate is due to choice's made by men because God gave us free will.  We can use His teaching to learn from all situations.
You can chose to follow His path and live your life under His guidance or you can chose to drive drunk and kill someone or chose to abuse little children.  I just cannot reconcile that these type of things are in God's plan.  My faith is there to help me through these horrible situations.

I believe God has a general plan in life for us but I don't believe he plans for us to do unthinkable acts such as killing others or hurting little kids. I believe those bad choices are devil influenced or just bad morals.

I don't know what the answer is. But just based on my experiences, I believe that everything, even the bad things, happen for a reason.

Boccaccio deals with the issue of our sinful nature and God's plan/freewill. It's interesting.

I too believe God carries us through these things and we have to choose evil for it to exist. We perpetuate it. But if we come back to God we can overcome it. I know that your family is dealing with some stuff from your other post. I'm so sorry. :(

Prayers for you all at this time.

I believe God gave us life and whatever happens whether good or bad is just life. I don't believe it's Gods will to make the innocent suffer. We all have and make choices everyday that affect us and others. Gods plan was to give us life here and now and he gave us the right to choose to be with him once our time is up here.

Thank you, you very eloquently put into words how I feel. I do not at all question God why this is happening to this little girl because I do not believe he planned for it to happen and that there is not a reason for it. as you said, man choses evil and we can chose to turn away from it. It almost offends me to hear someone say everything happens for a reason or it is all in Golds plan when something terrible happens. I would to defend my God, that he does not plan these things or want them to happen, He is loving and kind and wants the best for us, it is up to us to strive for the best life possible.

Joyce Myer has a great way of explaining how you feel. She is a living testimony to child abuse and how God can take our mess and turn into a miracle :)

I don't believe this any more than I believe what the muslim terrorist believes, which is that anything that happens after he flips the trigger on the bomb he is wearing is "the will of Allah"...

Our Pastor did a series called Living A Legacy, this particular week was based on Judges 6 regardinging Change. I wrote a few good points that really stuck out to me. The most prominent one is "Sometimes God removes His hand of Protection so that You cry out to Him." God wants you to Do What You Can Do and THEN God will do the rest! It's about Faith. Sometimes God lets us go thru things, not to punish us, or see us suffer, but for us to LEARN to DEPEND ON HIM. FAITH. It doesn't mean the outcome is always going to be "good" or "how we want it" but you have to stop and ask, is it really the end then? Finally, God loves us when we are afraid-He's not mad at us; He says Mighty Hero GET UP!!!

Funny you should mention this because I was just reading Joyce Meyers' book "Living Courageously"... In there she says, "Although He was a Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered. And, making Him perfectly, He became the Author and Source of eternal salvation... Hebrews 5:8-9. She says in her book, "Sometimes we must go through things in order to fully understand the difficulties that others experience."

I have to agree. If I told people some of the stories that happened to me when I was a child they would be appalled. But scripture says "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.…

If we believe that life begins at conception and God plans for each and every child that comes into the world... Then how can we not know that He already knows what is going to happen with every individual here, before it ever occurs. I think that we sometimes put so much emphasis on our time here that we forget how temporary it really is. That doesn't mean I don't want my life here to be good, because I do. But this is a battleground and bad things are going to happen. Life is going to happen. We aren't ever going to be able to stop bad things from happening. That doesn't mean we should just throw our hands up and surrender... But it does mean that we do our part and we leave the results up to God. We trust His plan for us and for our children, our friends our family and those He puts in our life.

I feel no animosity towards anyone for the things that happened when I was a child. I rejoice in them and would live it all over again if it meant that I could help just one other person see that no matter what happens, you do not have to live life bitter and defeated. I'm glad that my cross was one I could handle. I would rather have gone through that than something else. We all have to face hardships... I don't think mine was that bad... It sure could have been worse. So THANK YOU GOD! For not giving me more than I could handle.

Let me also say one more thing... It took me years to realize the things that I just typed out. It did not happen overnight, it has been a journey, but it has been so worth it.

It doesn't always make sense to us, does it? Bad things happening in the world around us to good people or children. It is a sad travesty. But I think it goes somewhat to the Beattitudes in Matthew...
3“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Because, if you turn them around it says just as much of who aren't blessed and what they won't inherit. Sometimes their punishment doesn't come until eternal life, which is eternal punishment. Sometimes God gives extra chances to people, and they just screw it up. The sad part is the innocents that get in the way. Why God allows, maybe it has to do with the verse that God chastens those He loves.  Or maybe He knows those ones will stand the test. I don't have the answer. The best thing we can do is pray for them all, from the innocents to the ones that are doing the evil. Remember, Satan is just as big of a force in this world as ever. As far as it being just freewill, I think the Devil is helping too.

It's hard to believe in "plans" when bad things have happened in your life that were not of any control......
Was it Gods plan (my mothers death when I was very young) ...so does God let some die and save others......I don't exactly know the answer.
John the Baptist questioned the plan.........Jesus could have called down angels and saved him for he had healed the blind raised the dead......john the Baptist lost his head......where was Jesus?

Do you REALLY believe that God CAN'T prevent things from happening? That the Maker of the Heaven's and the earth is powerless to protect us if He so chooses? I know you don't really believe that.

See, the thing is, when we get to Heaven we will realize all the bad things that God stopped from happening to us. It's something that we can't know because we aren't all knowing like God is.

As I parent, sometimes I just KNOW when one of my kids is about to do something wrong or stupid or careless, etc.  Sometimes I stop it from happening.  Sometimes I have to step back and let her work her way through it.  I love them more than anything else in my world, but I can't fix everything for them.  God is my Father.

I believe that He won't bring you to it, if He can't bring you through it.

I believe that we have free will, and that we have that free will because God doesn't want to force us to turn to Him, He wants us to want to, He wants us to freely and whole heartedly rely on him.

I believe God made sure we have the 2nd amendment to use as the only permit needed to own or carry a gun for societies protection, our own protection and families protection.

Without the power to have an offense when dealing with the evil powers that be ...
our free will society will disappear right before our eyes. God has given us the
2nd amendment to protect our Christian way of life and we better wake up to
that fact ... to defend ourselves when needed.

Our jobs as Christians is to be prepared by the word of God, so that we can see God's plan. The little children who suffer need God in their lives more than ever. I'll pray for your family and this little girl, and pray the system does the right thing. This is very sad =

Ive asked my Grandma this many times in the past. She explained it that there is a plan much deeper than any of us can understand and things wont make sense all the time. I've never really liked that and its never settled well with me. But I do believe there is some part of satan at work. I also believe that things happen for a reason. I've seen it in my own life. When I had nearly lost hope on a certain dream, all the broken roads led me to something bigger than I ever dreamed of.

Because God can see the whole plan & we can't & never will. We can't see what evil thought or action will result in good or what attempt to do good will result in something bad for someone somewhere some time. But God can.

People have been using their free will to do good or evil since Eve took a bite of apple in the Garden. God made us that way knowing we were going to mess up paradise and He knew He was going to give us a way back to Him that some of us will reject. And still He gives us that freedom.

CJE... You are right, that is the age old question...Why?

Here is how I look at it these days... It doesn't really matter to me why. It just happened and I have to trust God. I say that He is my Lord, I say I believe in Him, I say He loves me, I say I read and believe His word, so I have to trust Him, or I'm just a hypocrite. Let me just put this out there... I was sexually abused as a child and went through some pretty grueling emotional things... When I was young I didn't understand it, it caused all types of issues for me as a young adult. BUT, as I look back I can see God's presence on so many occasions in my life. I certainly didn't know it then but He was with me. I can choose to be a victim of my situation or I can be a victor to spite those things. I CHOOSE to rise above it. Those things made me a better parent, I can relate to other people that have suffered abuse. When I talk to them they can feel good knowing that I actually understand their fears, their hurt and their pain. I can tell them that they don't have to live defeated, and mean it. I can bring them hope that you do not have to carry that around with you your entire life. It makes it easier for me not to be so judgemental of other people. I realize that so many of the mistakes they sometimes make are simply because of the things that they suffered in the past. I see it through a very different set of eyes, and to me that is a blessing.

If we were all spared heartache and disease and hardships, this would not be called earth... It would be called Heaven. If there was nothing bad that ever happened, how would we recognize all the good that surrounds us. We will one day understand God's plan... Why He intervened in some places and not in others, but now is not that time.

CJE... You can rest assured that God has a plan for your life and that your mom is with Him, surrounded by His glory. Go help someone else get over their loss. Tell them that you understand their pain and their struggles. Tell them that it is all going to be okay. Because it is! ;)

And therein is the question.........if He chooses........why does He choose one over the other.........did HE choose NOT to protect my mother from being killed when I was 5........or did he choose NOT to heal the child from cancer..........and heal one............

I feel as CJ does, I don't think there is a why in reference to God because I do not think God choses what happens and what does not happen.  The why is easy to answer, there is biology that creates sickness, there is evil created by man.   As others have said there is life, God created life but he is not controlling what is happening in our life.  To be blunt, if a man is put in jail for molesting children, why is it ok then for God to have "allowed" that to happen?  Free will means we have choices and although God is there to help pick up the pieces through our faith, he does not have a reason for everything.  I do not need a God whose plan is for little children or anyone to suffer.  I understand as posted that we have to let others make mistakes to learn but that is different then planning the suffering.  Where is God in the plan when little children are being horribly abused and molested?  I just cannot accept that He choses to let that happen, it happens because those perpetrating it are evil.

But by saying that you are also saying that God is powerless to do anything about it. I just don't believe that is true. God is the Creator of the entire universe, He can do anything, He could stop abuse, disease, pain... But He doesn't always do that. Why? If you trust Him in ALL things, then does it really matter why?

Do you believe God has power over everything, or that He is powerless on earth?

Edited to add... David suffered so many trials and ended up a king. He kept in faith that it was all part of God's plan. What about Job... God allowed all kinds of things to happen to Job and he ended up the victor when it was all said and done.

I agree with the above posts.

I also know God is a just God and serves up the perfect justice for all sin. You may not see the Godly justice on this earth, however looking at my experience and those close to me often justice is served on earth in the perfect time. We all will answer for our choices good and bad.

Where is God when all the evil is going on in the world? The same place He was when He allowed His precious Son to die a terribly cruel death on a cross like a common criminal! He was on His throne in heaven knowing from the beginning of time that the day would come when Jesus would die for all of us. How fair was that??? He never did anything wrong or deserved the punishment and death He endured for us!! The Bible teaches that God’s ways are higher than our ways. If we had all the answers WE would be God. Oh, yes… God could step in at any time and call a halt to time itself and stop all the evil that goes on in the world (and one day Jesus is coming back to do just that). But He loves us enough that He does not make us love Him – He gives us that choice, just like He allows us to do whatever we choose to do… good or bad. We are not puppets or robots that He controls our every move. I do believe that He has a perfect plan for every one of us and I can guarantee it doesn’t involve doing bad things. Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. That’s what God’s plan is for us. Unfortunately, we all choose to make choices that He would not make for us!

Yes, although He has the power, I do not believe that God picks and choses who He saves from suffering.  Again, we use His teachings to gain strength thru hardships and can learn and grow stronger thru adversity but absolutely in no way do I believe God choses who is going to suffer and who is not.

We are ALL going to suffer... no one gets away with a perfect life. It's not about whether or not you will have trials, because you will. It's how you deal with those trials that counts.

Our faith gives us someone to lean on. No God, no peace... Know God, know peace.

Sometimes we just have to agree to disagree.

These statements I absolutley agree with.  Again,I do not question why we suffer or why we have suffering.  I question when people say it is because God planned it or there is a "reason for everything".  I disagree that God specifically planned suffering, we did that thru the  free will he gave us and the ability thru that free will to make choices.  Death from disease happens not becuase He planned it.  I don't believe He put cancer on this earth for a reason.   I disagree with that "there is a reason for everything".  Again, I understand we can gain strength and wisdom thru adversity but some adversity is so horrific it is beyond the scope of you need this to learn.

It is my belief that He does not give us a disease or make someone abuse someone else, etc. Those things just exist in the world... but, He does ALLOW things to happen. For every one thing that happens to us there are 10,000 things that He prevents from happening to us. I try really hard to keep my focus on the things that haven't happened rather than the things that have or could happen. It is hard to find joy in my life when I dwell on the what if or what did. You can not drive forward effectively while looking in your rear view mirror.

I find peace knowing that God controls ALL things and if He allows me to go through some particular trial then it has a Kingdom reason and God will turn it to good. I may never get to see it, but I am confident in His love for me so I will just have faith that He knows the plans He has for me.

i have a hard time with this right now. My son has been treated horribly by his biological father. He was just a child and i dont understand why God would "let" those things happen to my son who hasnt done anything to "deserve" what he got. Because of what happened though all rights were taken from my ex and my husband was able to adopt my son. The things my kid would have been raised around was my fear since he was born. Underage drinking, smoking, partying and sex. With adults knowing what is going on and heck half of them would party with the kids. So was my son "allowed" to be treated the way he was so i would be able to get him away from that family and hopefully keep him from going down the wrong path which would be impossible with that family buying him all the beer he wants. So i dont know the answer to your question but i would like to think everything happens for a reason. I guess it is what keeps me going when things are going bad.

God gets blamed for a lot of things God did not do. The Bible does not say God is in control of this world.... closest thing to saying that is one small verse in Isaiah, but it does say the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy ant that God comes to give life and give it more abundantly.

Bibliafarm - 2015-04-16 9:39 PM  I dont believe the saying everything happens for a reason..I believe God cant prevent things from happening but he promises to ALWAYS  be there to carry you and hold you up to get you thru them..
And therein is the question.........if He chooses........why does He choose one over the other.........did HE choose NOT to protect my mother from being killed when I was 5........or did he choose NOT to heal the child from cancer..........and heal one............
Because it is! ;)
I absolutely refuse to beleive he allows it either.. satan yes but hes there to heal or help pick us up and for us to lean on and pray to keep faith in.. without God in my life Id never have made it thru waynes death nor my daddys illness and with faith and Gods healing he is doing well..
When Wayne died I couldnt even imagine the next day.. with God I found that peace and the strength . I cant explain it.. my daddy always has a peace and calm about him.. even in hard times.. I never understood it. never.. until wayne died and I turned to God more then ever.. it was the only way to make it thru.. ever since then I find my peace .my faith is strong . I trust in him to bring me thru whatever happens in my life.when all around me is in chaos I pray and i find my balance in my life again. He is there to lean on, to guide us , to be our strength. no matter what you have to go thru. he will walk you thru it if you just have faith in him..

My grandmother would give that a big Amen, and I will too!

Sometimes I feel that I need to defend God and the Bible. My husband, the actual preacher of the family, tells me that my actions and the way I treat people is the best kind of witness. Sometimes we use words!!

My grandmother was a prayer warrior, and between her and my mother made me a drug child-----you know the ones that are drug to church every time the doors are open? And I thank my God everyday for it. Mammaw Pearl truly LIVED a Christian life, not just talked it. Her greatest prayer in life was for her family to follow her into the kingdom of God. She's been gone since 1999, but I still ask myself quite often in situations. . . What would Mammaw do? And it helps me get the right answer most times.

CJE - 2015-04-16 9:43 PM It's hard to believe in "plans" when bad things have happened in your life that were not of any control......

We can't compare earth to heaven.  Heaven is our perfect home where nothing bad happens.  Earth is our learning time to help us have faith and grow closer to God through trials and tribulations.  I don't know if there is a plan or if we have free will, but it doesn't matter because I believe our purpose on earth is to learn from both the good and bad things that happen and, more than anything, to always remember that no one dies, we all have everlasting life and even when someone close to us passes away (even a child) they are not dead, their soul lives on with us and in heaven.  God doesn't pick one to live and one to die, but it could be that certain people on earth need different lessons and the trials and life and death are part of that.  The lesson is faith and loving and trusting God.  Jesus proved to us that there is everlasting life, his purpose was not to make sure everything on earth was perfect like it is in heaven.  Think of it this way, that heaven is eternal and our life on earth is a drop in the bucket compared to that.  That's why some religions believe we re-incarnate in order to keep learning lessons to bring us closer to God.  I don't know, but I do know it's about faith.

I dont believe that at all..

I think I said it wrong, the way it reads looks like I meant that God 'makes' bad things happen to teach lessons to some people.  I'm sorry, that wasn't my meaning at all, but I see that it sounds like it.  I meant to make a point that in some religions, the belief is that we plan the general path of our earth lives with God before we are born to attain higher spiritual growth and move closer to God.   Some people include more trials than others, the purpose being is to have faith that no matter what happens, we need to love and trust God and have faith that our souls live forever in perfect heaven with God, but our mortal flesh on earth is temporary and vulnerable, so we need to be aware that we are all really eternal souls here on earth to learn, and some will be faced with a lot more tragedy than others, but it's what they wanted for higher spiritual growth, knowing that our true eternal selves will live forever.

My family believes this, it's how I was raised to believe, so I tend to see death as a passing to our real home, knowing we will all reunite again.  I believe we are all inter-connected and part of our spiritual growth is learning to see God in each of us and know that we all have a purpose for being here and all of our interactions with others is meant to give us choices in the path we take,  we grow spiritually no matter what choice we make, good or bad, we learn from it.  The hope is that we learn to be tolerant of others beliefs and shortcomings, knowing we are all on a different spiritaul path, and the big picture will be revealed once we go home to heaven.  It's my belief, and I respect others beliefs, I hope it makes some sense this time.
